But aren't post box numbers duplicated in post offices through out the country?

I wondered the same thing. I had my daughter mail a letter from California as a test. It was addressed to my full name, Charlotte Mail Center, Box ####, The Villages, FL, Zip. It worked just fine. The reason is I would like to use it as my return address for selling on eBay. It will save me from paying for a PO Box. I still want to talk to our mail gal just to confirm it’s ok on a regular basis.

I can see at least two problems if using the box number on eBay. About a 1/3 of the sellers ship Fedex or UPS, they cannot ship to P.O. Boxes, must have a street address. The other problem is when you receive an oversized package too big for a locker, such as a golf club, computer, etc. The postal worker must deliver to your front porch. So he coming from Lady Lake post office enroute to your home and only sees your name and a box number. You would probably get a message in your box, oversized package, go to Lady Lake post office to pick up your delivery.

He wants the address as an EBay seller, not as a buyer.

Anonymity, so you don't have to use your home address.

Why is that necessary?

I'll tell you what makes cents, well actually billions.

Being the developer of the world's most successful retirement community, where you name the streets as you damn well please.

You got lucky. The human factor is involved and the local postal employees that handled your mail figured it out. Next time the person that sees that letter may not figure it out and back to the sender it will go. You are just creating more work because the automated system cannot possibly associate that box number with you, those boxes are made for postal lobbies but have been modified to accommodate The Villages delivery system. I can guarantee you there are duplicate numbers throughout The Villages so the automated equipment could not possibly say Box XXXX belongs to John Doe in Hadley. Jane Doe in Charlotte could have the same box number. Just use your street address or go rent a box.

Absolutely correct !

Yes, but the key is each post office section has a separate zip code. Some post office box units are so large they have multiple zip codes within the same building.

There is no necessity to it at all. Just a desire for to keep one's physical location private or a keep private the fact that they are running a business out of their home.

Do the covenants allow for a business to be run out of your home?

No.

I believe the following language is used for most, if not all, of the CDDs.

Properties within the subdivision are intended for residential use and no commercial, professional or similar activity requiring either maintaining an inventory, equipment or customer/client visits may be conducted in a Home or on a Homesite.

Presumably if you are not maintaining an inventory, equipment or have customer visits you are good to go. For example, if you had a business doing consulting over the phone you are OK.

...and, once again, the CDD only gets involved if there are complaints called in.

I do remember someone running a golf cart rental/repair service out of their garage in Bonita and he always had several golf carts in the driveway looking mighty shabby. It finally got put to an end, I believe.

The question was whether the covenants allowed it. I was answering the question.
