Default mini-split with vinyl windows in the lanai

Does anyone out there have this setup? I know the code says only allowed for dehumidification.

I know it has been done without permits. That being said keep a couple of things in mind. Most of the vinyl installations cannot meet current building code for exterior windows. Some manufacturers recommend removing the windows during high winds.

We have a mini split with vinyl and it works great all year. Very energy efficient and we leave the slider to the living room open during the day when it is on. Was told by SunKool it would help heat/cool Living room, too. Not much change in the electric bill.

We have one for three years now. Use it year around. Runs us about 6 bucks a month for heating and cooling.

It's an air conditioner in two pieces. A condenser outside and a cooling unit inside.

The building codes do not allow a lanai to be air conditioned but they do allow it to be dehumidified. But there is no difference between an AC and a dehumidifier except the control that turns it on. In theory you set the humidity level you want with an dehumidifier and you set the temp you want with an AC... but they are mechanically the same equipment.

Just check with a AC company and they can set you up with a unit that has both a humidity control and a temperature control... you can choose which on you want to set.

We've had one for a year now and absolutely love it. Before we got it, our lanai was virtually useless during hot summer and cold winter months but now we leave the slider open to the living room all the time.

Thanks! We don't have an enclosed lanai but it was a term I wasn't familiar with. Always love learning about other ways of doing things.
