Default Care of Citrus Trees

Just moved to Villages, have a lime and lemon tree in yard, what kind of care do they need. (Spray?)

Thanks

My lawn and tree (Bates) Contract Co. Told me just not to mulch around my lime tree. They take care of all fertilizing and spraying of the yard and trees.

I bought some citrus tree fertilizer spikes from Amazon.com for my husband to use on our fruit cocktail tree. I believe he also sprays the tree a few times a year, but not sure with what.

I have citrus trees at my current home. I have never sprayed them with any insecticide because we eat the fruit. I use my garden hose with a strong spray nozzle to wash them with water once a week to knock off any unwanted insects. You can do this all year except when there are blooms/flowers. I get inside the trees to ensure I spay under the leaves where insects love to hide and lay eggs. This has worked for me for more than 20 years and the trees are all healthy. The water from the spray also goes to the ground to water the trees at the same time.

I sprayed my lemon tree with a mixture of one part Dawn detergent and 10 parts water.

In driving around T.V. I've seen oranges with blackened areas on them...what's that all about?? I've been tentative about planting any citrus trees for a couple of reasons...not being able to use all of it AND have also read on here about fruit rats. Not sure if the latter is true or not!

Thoughts would be appreciated!!

Look in the paper & go see one of the master gardeners, IT'S FREE!
On Mons. 9:00am-Noon U can go to the firehouse/county bldg complex on 466, it's on the South side of the st. (big white bldg). These volunteers are VERY knowledgeble.
