Your thoughts on Murphy Beds. Does anyone know what an average price would be? Can they be used with a mattress only or do they require a box spring too? Wondering if you like them for your guests and where would someone purchase one in the Villages? Any and all information would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

We did purchase a Queen size Murphy Bed a few years ago that had a small closet space above 4 drawers which allowed us to use our closet in the bedroom for storage. They are pretty pricey but you free up the rest of the room for any projects you may be working on. They are very pricey but over time, to us, they were well worth it. You don't need a box spring with their mattress. We purchased ours in 2007 and the cost was about $3,500. We have since moved to a new home in the Villages and brought the bed with us.

We are in the process of shopping for one right now. They are pricey, if you get a unit with bookcases and a desk it will run about 6K but as the previous poster said, it frees up a lot of room. Good luck!

I just purchased one from a store at Southern Trace. Its called Wall Beds Plus. I have not had it installed yet but am looking forward to all the benefits that system has to offer. My particular system was $2600. They differ on what size bed and cabinet combos you desire. Check out their website at Wall Plus Beds

The first thing we bought in our new home in 2006 was a queen size Murphy bed for the 3rd (guest) bedroom/computer room. Ours was pricey too, about $2000 installed. It is just a large oak laminate cabinet with a pull down bed inside. No box spring.
The second thing we bought was a $85 queen size air bed for the master bedroom. We were still working and only used the new home for about two weeks twice a year. We usually slept on the air bed in the MBR because it was a larger room and we had guests a few times each year that used the Murphy bed. Both the Murphy bed and air bed were comfortable. The Murphy bed has only been used a few times a year but worth the expense because it is always available if someone wants to stay and you can still use the room for other things when it isn't in use. .

Thanks for all the replies, great informaion! Wow! A lot to consider especially because of the price. We decided to let our guest sleep on the concrete lanai floor during their lifestyle visit with us!

I have a Murphy bed with a corner desk, shelves and drawers that will be available in May. I am not there now, but it is light wood mid century in style. If I had to buy what I have new, it would cost about $4000. When I redo my room mid May you can come by. I have a picture of the same style on my post. (just Search Murphy bed)Mine has lights for reading, and a shelf for water and glasses at bedtime. Please look at it. I will sell if for $1500. or best offer. But it will have to be in May. Thanks and good luck. |
