Smile Laminate flooring

Hi everyone. Well we finally made it! We are now officially Villagers and we have the drivers licenses to prove it. So much to do, but now retired! Ok I have a question to ask, we want to have laminate floors installed. We received an estimate from Nickel Tile in Sumter Landing. Has anyone used them for laminate? Please, we need some advice and guidance, we are new here. Is the baseboard supposed to be removed and the floor installed 1/4 inch away from wall, and en the baseboard re-installed? How is this done without ruining the baseboard? Any advice is greatly appreciated.
By the way, we bought our villa last year, had to go back to Long Island until I retired. We used a home watch company that was wonderful! Kept us abreast of our house and property. His name is Jeff Halstead from The HomeWatch. 352-409-6733. He was even available for deliveries and installations. He is highly recommended. Thank you again.

Hi, We went through what you are doing in May. We had laminate installed and we got three quotes, One from Nickel Tile, East Cost flooring and one other flooring company down at Colony square. We went with East Coast flooring. We paid extra to have the base molding removed, repainted and reinstalled. I liked the look of the base molding with out the toe molding. If you have it installed without removing the base they will need to install toe molding to cover the edge of the laminate. I would give East Coast Flooring a excellent rating as far as the installation, price and service. If you would like we could arrange for you to see the installed flooring. Send me a P.M.

We did not use Nickel Tile in Sumter Landing for our laminate, Lowe's did ours. We did have the option of having the base board removed but instead we installed a 3/4 round (white plastic). We have the 5" base board that is nicely painted, you see no seams or nail holes. We felt they they could not remove it without tearing the Sheetrock because it is caulked and they would also have to repaint and fill the nail holes. I have not been in a house yet with a laminate floor that the installer opted to remove the baseboard to install the laminate.

any floor installer worth his salt would remove them, not to do so is just a crappy cheap looking job.

Looks like an after thought to cover up a mistake

Nothing is ruined they pop off and are nailed back with an airgun caulked & painted

Does it take more time sure.

Do it right or don't do it at all.

Just my opinion.

We went with East Coast Flooring to install our laminate...and yes, paid extra to have to the baseboard removed and then re-installed. Totally worth it. I will also tell you that we have had Nickel Tile do an engineered hardwood install at my mom's house and a carpet install at my mother-in-law's house...they totally stand behind their work! We went with East Coast because they carried a particular brand of laminate that we wanted...if Nickel had carried it we would have used them! We love Jason at Nickel...always professional and 100% customer-service focused!

We are starting to look at laminate flooring, would you mind telling me what brand you used, and approx $ p/sf. I'm a little overwhelmed trying to pick a brand.

Has anyone used distinctive flooring? We went to their showroom and I was impressed with the owner.

Thanks for any advise.
