Default What is the length of railing segments?

Trying to get a sense of measurement...
Many of the "View" lots have a wall plus railing along the back. It seems the railings are made of pre-assembled segments that are probably of similar length. Can someone tell me the length of one of these segments?

...Or, I'll bring a tape measure when coming down for a Lifestyle visit in a few weeks.
Thanks!

Counting the spaces and assuming the upright rods are approximately 4” on center (which would be to code) the length would be somewhere between 5 and 6 feet more likely 64”

thevillages2013: Thanks. That's a reasonable estimate.

Robie0723: Thanks to you too. That's an interesting resource. Yet, for recently built homes, those newly listed on the Villages Homefinder, there are no drawings, only a few remarks about the existence of a building.

It would be a REAL GOOD THING s someone had an actual measurement. ... and while they are out measuring, the length of one of the side fence panels used with courtyard homes would also be a REAL GOOD THING to know.

Thanks

Just wondering, why is this of importance?

We're considering a move to the Villages. We have not yet been there (waiting for our timeslot to open) and have been previewing homes on the Villages Homefinder website. While each of the listings offer dimensions of the buildings, they do not offer dimensions of the lots.

Among the many pictures of each listing there are often shots that show railings and fences. It is also interesting to note there is a lot of distortion in the photos, such as taking long shots with wide angle settings. It's difficult to judge true dimensions from those photos. Knowing the measures of those railing and fence units, we can estimate the size of the lots.

From your note, you are looking to find lot dimensions and size. If so, check the appropriate County Property Assessor website. I checked Sumter County where I live. You can enter Owners Name or the property address. Click on parcel details and you will get data such as the property size in acres. Then click on the property sketch showing lot lines and house outline. By selectively clicking on the zoom in feature you will get a zoomed in picture with a scale list as to xft per i inch on the lot sketch. For my house I could zoom into about 12.5 ft per inch when the house gets fuzzy but the lot lines remain sharp. Just measure what you are interested in on the screen and calculate the length. In your case measure the whole fence assuming that it is the lot line and calculate each straight line and you would have a reasonable estimate of the lot line dimensions.

Thanks for the suggestion. It doesn't work. Been there, tried that. As I noted to an earlier suggestion (see the second response in the thread) of the same thing, recently listed properties don't yet have those details recorded. We're looking at new properties, some only listed in the past few days, and it appears the county lags in recording those details.

Being in construction for almost forty years, if someone gives me dimensions of a building and shows boundaries, in a photo, of let's say a fence, I could pretty much gauge the dimensions of the lot. with small lots like here, it's pretty easy. But that's just my experience. Post # 2 is a good gauge also

Yes. He'll get lots of questions in a couple of weeks. ... and we'll see if he has a tape measure.

They can tell you lot dimensions.

Maps in The Villages App show relative lot size.

FWIW - I found enough to satisfy my curiosity. No, not a Villager with a tape measure willing to actually measure something, but actual measurements of lot areas.

An early suggestion was to use a Sumter County app named eTRAKiT. Good idea, but almost none of the newer listings could be found.

A second suggestion simply suggested searching Sumter County records, but did not include a good link. After roaming around a bit, I discovered the place to start a search is: Sumter County Property Appraiser Some of the more recent entries, newer properties just now going up for sale have minimal information, but at least lot size. Older properties have much more information, complete with simple drawings of structures, and several lot dimensions.

THANKS to all who offered suggestions.
