Just a reminder: Considering we're hitting back-to-back cold snaps already, now is a good time to change your sprinklers to run in the evenings rather than early mornings. If there is going to be a serious freeze on your run night, turn your sprinklers off so that there's no chance of ice forming on top of the frost.

went to the Twice on Tuesday session at Seabreeze last week (or the week before - having trouble keeping track of days now that I'm here) and we were told to NOT water before a frost, just to bring plants in or cover, and not with plastic. Said that watering during a frost is best left to professionals who are constantly monitoring temp and wind.
Said time to turn systems to off and just water manually every 10-14 days if insufficient rain. And, to still water in the early morning, say as soon as you get up if there hasn't been sufficient rainfall for 10-14- days. That said, the garden books I've been reading have all said that soil shouldn't be dry before a frost and to make sure the roots have sufficient moisture after. |
