Default Charter School Basketball

Well, according to the DS, the rumors were true after all. I haven't heard if there will be additional sanctions but the players have been ruled ineligible. Doesn't hurt the one kid because he already graduated but decimates the team for this year. They have set up a pretty impressive tournament that was going to be a bit of a showcase for the kids. Curious to see if they appeal or transfer immediately. Sad story.....

The article doesn't really say the reasons for the players being ineligible. Do you know?

From what I know from before it had to do with their transfer itself. I believe it was the timing and the reason. I believe in Florida you must sit out a season prior to competing at the new school unless certain circumstances are met. But I'm not sure about any of it.
What I did find comical was Dr. McDaniels comments about FHSSA. He applauds them when they get recognition but when they get their hand slapped they are a rogue organization.

I interpreted that Dr. McDaniels was more upset about how the investigation was handled, not the decision itself.

The FHSSA is a bigger joke than the NCAA

Perhaps the story could have been substantially more informative as to the reasons for the FHSAA findings. What was the accusation? Two of the athletes have already left The Villages HS to attend another school. How this ruling impacts them is unclear from the story.

What I find irritating about Randy McDaniel's statement is his attribution of the accusations are driven by a "rival school's jealousy." McDaniel has now painted every other school in the district and elsewhere with the same brush of "jealousy." Name the school.

I am sure that many people who enjoyed last year's triumphant basketball team wondered how four players from Gainesville suddenly transferred to The Villages HS.

I have no idea whether the FHSAA is a joke or not but I do know that where I am from in Connecticut and where I coached for many years, the CIAC (Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference) does not make decisions like this one lightly.

The Daily Sun owes its readers more information than today's story contained.

My thoughts exactly. I would like to know the specifics. I know the Gainseville paper had the original accusations, but the final outcome is sketchy.

Since the OP teaches at a local middle school perhaps he is aware of which schools are "jealous" and can summarize what the Gainesville paper said.

Nope, no idea. Our schools don't often play TVCHS because it's too small, not to mention, the Buffalo generally lose to us. My guess is that he is referring to the schools where the kids came from. As I said, I feel bad for the kids involved. They most likely will lose out as a result of this incident and the adults should have known better. The rules are rules as many often declare on this site......

The FHSAA has a long and ugly history of entering into an "investigation" with a predetermined conclusion. Was this the case in this situation? I do not know as I do not have the facts.

I do know that in multiple other "investigations" over many years, were I do have the exact details (and twice been directly involved) .... the FHSAA made a mockery of determining the truth and rendering a fair, impartial decision.

Anybody close to the school ever get any more information regarding this? Have the kids transferred to other schools? Did TVCS have to vacate any wins from last year? This story just flat out died without any follow-up.

People who teach at nearby schools such as Lake Weir Middle School should hear some information. If it were scandalous the news would spread fast.

I guess I could ask some one but I don't teach there(I'm sure that was the point of your post) so I will make some contacts.
It may not be "scandalous" but students had to change schools(I'm guessing here, which leads to my inquiry) and lives had to change because of this action. Not to mention, the one's left that had to deal with decimation of this years team. And if it wasn't scandalous, why no more information?????
