Default Weather Radio

Went to Radio Shack today looked at several models. Put em back and went to TOTV. What the best model? They have a small one under 39 and a larger Red Cross model around 59.00?

Default Midland

Midland WR120 from Walmart. $39. Has battery backup. Seems to be OK. Midland has been around for a long time. Fire Station in Sanibel programed it. We also signed up for "Red Alert" from Sumter sheriff. It is a "phone tree" that calls you for severe weather. I can not find their # but the fire stations will give it to you.

Sweetie went to the firestation to program our weather radio that we had bought four years ago and never had programmed. I went along because I wanted to see what UUJudy was talking about. .

The firemen said our rechargeable battery had died and they suggested we get the "white one that Publix sells". They said to check the price of a rechargeable battery and the white one at Publix and see if it wasn't cheaper to get a new one. While they were attempting to program I had a chance to look at everything there and UUJudy is right.

OH. and they weren't cooking chili or anything that I could tell. Nice firehouse.

Default Thow away Batteries

Midland has 3 "AA" batteries. Replace once a year when doing your smoke detectors. Use GOOD batteries, your life might depend on them.

That's where we bought our radio and it works GREAT !!! however we paid $ 29.88. During the last storm "Debby", we lost power for about three hours and the radio continued giving us warnings. Thanks Midland

Have had two Radio Shack weather radios since we have lived here and had problems with both. Radio Shack did replace the 1st one for free but when the 2nd failed that was enough.
We then bought a Midland at ACE hardware for about $30 over 3yrs ago and it has worked great. I believe Publix also sells the Midland.

I purchased an ETON Model FR800 ay Best Buy for approx. $60.00. It comes with an AC adapter and battery backup with "C" cell batteries. These radios are easy to program and I programmed Sumter, Marion, and Lake Counties to cover all basis. I agree, you can go to your nearest Fire Station and they can do it for you.

The radio worked like a charm alerting us of the various warnings when TS Debby was paying us a visit last week.

I have the Red Cross Radio Shack model. Of course we don't get much use of it up here in Ohio but I do like it's features. Especially the crank to charge and also a plug so you can crank to recharge your cell phone. No one seems to remember that. It has a brilliant flashligkt on it (ask my husband) and a bunch of other nice features. But, as I said, we don't have many/any hurricanes up here. I'll report more on it when we move down to TV in September.

Thanks Guys

Great Idea covering all counties. My Harley has NOAH weather radio built into the radio. But I do like the idea of the hand crank to recharge it and your cell phones

Go to Publix and buy the Midland. Take it over to the firehouse near you and they will program it for you in about 30 seconds.
