Why do you believe that there are substantially more members who view a thread rather than reply to one?

some people just prefer to discuss the Weather or accidents in the villages etc... rather than get into a topic which some may agree or disagree and have some intellectual conversation to actually discuss. I'd much rather discuss what is actually going on in the world rather than what did you have for dinner. So much more interesting and stimulating.

Sometimes I'm interested in the topic but really don't have anything constructive to say or any interest in contributing to the discussion

it would not matter what the subject matter or the group or the class or the mebership...the total of those who participate is always a significantly smaller number that those who do not.

Pareto's law/rule/principal.......80-20......

TOTV has thousands of members and only hundreds of posters out of which even a smaller number can be viewed as active.

Very typical distribution.

I will respond to something....read it....re-read it, and 50% of the time, delete before I post. ....I wish I could do the same with my mouth.

Bingo! I think fear of rejection is a major factor for some but others prefer to be "spectator's" as opposed to "player's". Then some are like me and sort of in the middle. It's nice to have both---no?

Usually, its because the question or issue has already been answered and my response would add nothing to the discussion.

Some of us have not moved to TV and are just viewing to learn all we can about TV before making our decision. It helps to inform us of things to do, where to eat, and what to stay away from.

At least once a day I read the new posts and often I don't even log on. For almost six years TOTV has been a valuable source of information, however I hardly post since I prefer to keep out of the fray.
