My wife and I are closing on a house next week in TV. We won't be able to move to it for a while and are beginning to consider our moving options. We're thinking either a good-sized U-Haul truck or one of those "PODS" storage units. What we're wondering is, where would we be able to hire a couple of guys in TV to help us unload either one once we have arrived? I guess we're looking for kind of a "Two Mean and No Truck" company.
Short of having the move handled by a full-service moving company (like Mayflower, who moved us from MI to NC) who handled packing, shipping and un-packing, what have y'all done to unpack the larger items (couches, bedroom furniture, fridge, freezer, etc.) during your moves to or within TV? |

Not sure what most Villagers do in this situation but we've helped plenty of our customers move around large furniture. Just let me know about how long it will take and when. We will be sure to schedule it in the morning before our boots get dirty, so we don't track dirt throughout your new home. Thanks, Tate Parada

As I recall, our sales rep at the time mentioned something about an individual that did this as we thought we might need the service also. As it turned out we didn't. I'd ask yours to ask around.

Uhaul rents people as well as trucks. I have rented help without a truck. I found their people were inexpensive and did a decent job.

We have used Labor Ready. Two guys arrived on time and did a great job. It's a minimum of four hours. After they unloaded our Uhaul, we had them wash our motorhome. And that is not an easy job.

Hello, I'm new to this and don't know how to post a new thread. I want it to be known that you should not use Village pack and ship to pack or ship any valuables. They damaged my 215 year old grandfather clock. I paid my moving men to put things in the house. I also have a handyman I use for $40 an hour.

We moved from Atlanta to The Villages. We packed our boxes ourselves and hired a local moving service in Atlanta to load our U-Haul rental trucks. (We moved over a period of months and loaded two large trucks.) My husband drove the trucks and even hauled one of our cars behind the truck in the last move. We made arrangements with Mitchell Moving Service to unload our trucks in The Villages.
Mitchell Moving arrived on time, with at least three people and took two to three hours unloading each truck. They got paid an hourly rate, placed the furniture, assembled a couple of bedroom pieces, swept out our rental trucks, cleaned up the moving trash and in our last move took our empty boxes we had unpacked. We were very pleased with their services and their rates were quite reasonable. Contrary to the sage advice to come with no furniture and buy everything in FL, we brought a full household with us. (We had floor plans and good measurements, and, prior to the move, we did sell off pieces that knew weren't going to fit into the new house.) The best thing we did was find a professional moving company at the front end (in Atlanta) that took great care in loading our truck and wrapping our large furniture in plastic and moving blankets. Each truck was packed tight like a geometry puzzle, using every nook and cranny. They packed the trucks as if they were moving the goods themselves, which meant the load was evenly distributed and there was no room for shifting around. We bought insurance from U-Haul while making the truck rental arrangements. This moving method was cheaper for us than PODS or having a full service mover. You have to be comfortable to drive the truck yourself, but this was a good exchange for us, doing none of the lifting, plus we were in possession of our property at all times. It all turned out perfect. Nothing was broken and we could even get the cars into the garage when we were finished! |
