Default Unwanted Solicitations

Many times since we have lived in TV we have received calls asking for donations to "the troopers" or "our EMT heros" or "our brave firefighters" etc.
The most recent was one asked us to donate to "our troopers".
I emailed the Florida Highway Patrol and asked if they were involved in this solicitation. Their immediate reply was no.
I have heard of similar scams before. Reportedly they sometimes will ask a local law enforcement agency if they can use their name and if so will give them 10% of whatever they collect with the local agency doing nothing.
If you ask the solicitors what % of any donation goes to the agency they are collecting for they will not give you an answer.
Very persistent people that never give up.

Just tell them that all of your donations are handled by your "trust manager" in the Cayman Islands.

the best way to stop them is TELL them to take you off the list and stop calling...if you just hang up, they will keep calling you!!

I tell the more suspicious callers that I just lost everything and ask if they can find it in their hearts to contribute to help me get back on my feet. They just hang up.

We moved here in October 2008, and delayed getting a land line because I didn't want politicians calling all day & night. It's 4 years later and we still don't have a land line. Nobody calls my cell phone with the Utah number, and life is good. Just sayin'...
