Default Comcast Data Cap Announced Today But Not For The Villages

I'm closing on a house in the Villages on the 15th and expected to use Comcast for Internet and Cable TV, but today they announced that they are putting a cap on usage in certain areas of the country, including Southeast Florida. Previously unlimited internet usage will now be limited to 300 GB per month, if you go over you'll be billed in $10 increments. The Internet will be managed like your cell phone usage probably is now.

This will not affect The Villages for now.

Is Comcast the exclusive Internet Provider in the Poinciana Village area? I think that's in District 5, north of 466A.

Thanks

They have to install meters in their network to track the usage of each and every IP address.
This is a trail period.
If enough customers baulk at the usage limit and threaten to "cut the cable", they'll go back to unlimited usage.

You could see this coming with all the Smart TVs and Streaming Devices in use today.

Just another excuse for Comcrash to raise rates AGAIN.

Thanks for the link.

No, Comcast not exclusive. There are several IPs available.

This is not our area. I checked the zip code list and 32162 is not there. They are going to trial it in the Miami area. It's probably just a matter of time though.

Assuming 5 megabits/sec for HD streaming via Netflix, that would be 133 hours. Your mileage may vary.
