I just have Comcast internet and used to get 50+ free TV channels.
That dropped to around 20 about a year ago, some of which were useful - PBS, Villages etc. Now it is 19, most of which seem to be advertising the NFL package. Does anyone have any different experience, or has Comcast finally cottoned on to the fact that they were giving away free stuff? All I really want is a PBS channel Thank you |

Yeah, they took away the channels you used to get free.

You need to get the DTA adapters for each TV, about $1.50 per month each. Comcast has encoded most if not all of the TV channels.

Much as we might not like Comcast, they are a business and expect to receive a fair return for their services. If you were to only have internet services but received tv channels, you were receiving something you were not entitled to receive. The fact that they "cottoned on to the fact that they were giving away free stuff" should be applauded by the customers paying for all of the services.

Let's all face it too many of us know" the price of everything and the value of nothing" but that insurance policy when activated becomes a life safer or that expert that waded trough all the complication saved you a fortune.
Cable companies are in constant competition with competitors, suppliers , advances in changing technologies ,regulations, etc. Even today, a homeowner cost can be a television set, a hook up with an antenna and the electricity to run it. That works for many people I never believed any merchant who touted the words "free" even the air we breathe has a cost because of EPA/government regulations |

I watch so little TV (and then only PBS) that I won't bother signing up for cable. I can usually watch the PBS programs via computer a few days later, anyway. |

OP, I have seen previous threads about outdoor or attic antennas (long range, directional) that work well in TV. You might look into this option.

That was actually my original intention, but the antenna-installer was the one who put me on to the free channels, so I never bothered with the antenna :-) |

I just had a discussion with Comcast. In June they told me that if I accepted this package my bill would not go up for two years. Well, it went up. When I called they told me that the cost of the DTA went up to 3.99 each and some other crap. When I explained to them that I was told that my bill would not increase they kept saying that the price increase is because of the DTA and the other junk. After 30 plus years, Comcast is history

For Internet only who is next best to Comcast? We dislike Comcast but always try to consider the biggest picture before getting rid of something...however, there comes a point.

Not much luck with Brighthouse now, though. If you don't buy cable from them, the charge a premium for decent internet access. |
