Thank you for saying what I was thinking. My fellow retirees really have too much time on their hands.

Use your left turn signal, steer left into the left (standard) lane and go around. It is that simple.

I see this often. There is no place else for them to park when they are doing work. Some will pull up onto the grass, but that is not always possible. It is not usually a problem. The ones I don't like are the people who park right next to the corner.

Thumbs up Anger

There is an abundance of anger in the Villages and this is one that demonstrates it's existence. Rather than being upset because you have to steer your cart around them why not help them and wave and go about your business. They are working and you most likely are not and have the time to be courteous and help them along. Just another chance at being a "good person".

Yes, there is!!!!! Park in the front of the house. Depending on what they are doing it may be less convenient, but a lot safer. To those who think it is no big deal, they haven't witnessed many near accidents because of these vehicles parked in a LANE OF TRAFFIC. Perhaps they should park in the right lane of I-75 as well. To my good friend who thinks I was nit picking, I agree. I did say it was a pet peeve

When houses were being built in our neighborhood, the workers blocked our driveway. We called the police and they came right away to order them to move their vehicle.

After that, it never happened again.

I don't think Sumter Co would say it is wrong as long as they put cones out in the road to alert oncoming traffic from behind. Many do not especially on the side streets.

I assume they do this for the convenience of accessing the back yard of homes with equipment and supplies, rather than entering the residential area and parking in front of the house. Now if a county worker is repairing the road or accessing a storm drain, that's one thing, but for a private contractor to create a safety hazard just for his own convenience is quite another. Thoughts?????? (Sorry, this has been a pet peeve of mine for years)
Really! Slow down and proceed with caution. These guys are just trying to earn a living.

It has NOTHING to do with "speed". It has to do with visibility, especially near an intersection. And it has to do with a private entity PARKING IN AN ACTIVE LANE OF TRAFFIC. They can make the same living parking in front of the property, and do so without the possibility of someone else dying.

You called the police before you spoke to the workers?

Agreed, it for there convenience..time is money so parking in front and walking to the back of homes takes time. Not to mention it is just easier to bring tools and equipment. But I agree it is a safety issue.

Chapter 17. MOTOR VEHICLES AND TRAFFIC, Code of Ordinances, Sumter County and more specifically http://sumtercounty-fl.elaws.us/code..._div2_sec17-53

That is the statute. Enforcement seems to be left to the Law Enforcement Officer. (LEO)

Our opinions are not specifically relevant except our activities in this area that may provoke LEO.

There were five houses being built in our cul-de-sac and no worker confessed to being the one who was blocking our driveway.

When the police pulled up, the workers all seemed to disappear inside the houses. The police quickly found the culprit.

Just can not get worked up about this. How many times a month does this happen? Bigger issue is the RV's blocking the street, grass mowers with trailers on the street, crazy Ma Jong ladies parked all over the street and the book club blocking the street. Also lions and tigers and bears, OH MY!
