I see no reason to interrupt an innocuous remark regarding "handguns" as some hidden message that TV is not a safe place to retire.

The only assumption that I made regarding Vinny's question is that he is a law abiding citizen who is going to make those around him a good neighbor.

There are some who feel (well intentioned I'm sure) they must "defend" TV even when there is nothing to defend. TV speaks well for itself. It is a lovely retirement community and is "right" for some, yet "wrong" for others.

As far as the comments hurled at those who post on the "Political Forum," I find that one must "thread" more lightly on the "General Discussion Forum" because they tend to become a bit more volatile than others especially when any subject is controversial.

You are absolutely right. My brother-in-law asked me so I asked the forum. Unfortunately guns are a hot button topic. At least I learned a lot about who carries and who does not and different views on the subject. I never felt that words could hurt me or whist other people think of me. I am an island unto myself in this regard.

Now I can report back to NJ whose homes to stay away from. :-).

Imagine starting a thread that "triggers" a conversation. :faint:

...Oh wait. I thought that was what discussion boards were for.

Thank you for the leveled headed discussion on concealed weapons. Yes, I do carry a concealed weapon. And I did carry yesterday to San Antonio. There are many reason I chose to carry: I do drive to the city alone, I do live in a small town with open land behind me and I do feel the need.
I do have to say, I went through 12 hours of training to receive my license here in Texas. A lot of the course was aimed a conflict management and how to handle situations by not drawing your gun. Yes I do have a laser sight.
Would I have a hard time using it - not if I feel myself, my husband or my property is truly threatened.
Unfortunately as some have said there are bad people in the world.

Hope to be there soon ......BJ

There isn't much in the way of bad guys here. I keep saying it. I keep saying it. I keep saying it.

Read the facts, read the facts, read the facts.

What are you inplying??

K9-Lovers 07-19-2010 01:38 PM

I'm not implying anything. There are bad guys everywhere, even here in TV. As much as I'd like to believe there is no crime here, it's just not so, unfortunately.

Pats2010 07-19-2010 01:51 PM

Evil people are everywhere. They don't lock them up like they used to.

graciegirl 07-19-2010 02:10 PM

Relatively speaking, this is a safe place. Now how many times do you think there has been a situation where a gun was needed in the two years I have lived here? NONE!

Fourpar 07-19-2010 02:15 PM

C weapons

Vinny,
Anyone who has such a permit knows, or should know where it is okay to carry. That is a very prominent part of the licensing process. If the person does not know that information, they should probably not have such a permit...

Gracie

Perception is everything. Even thugs have it. If TV has the reputation of having people who are conservative law-abiding citizens, then that means that a good percentage will be armed.
On the other hand, if people have an image of TV as aging hippies who walk around giving people the "peace sign" they will project an image of helpless victims. IMHO

BJinTX 07-19-2010 03:12 PM

Gracie is right....

Gracie, you are right. Perception means a lot. I do hope TV is not a bunch of old hippies, I want a lively bunch when we get there.
I do know a girl here (our town is 22,000) that went to Austin. She did get lost. At a stop sign, a car with 4 guys next to her where checking her out. They were not regular nice guys. She just placed her gun on the dash and had no problems!

Forget all this pistol packing Paladin nonsense. The only way to travel with a gun is with an Easy Rider Rifle Rack on the back of your golf cart.

Relatively speaking, I am sure we can all say where ever we have been

is relatively safe with no need to carry/have concealed weapon. The same is iron clad true for insurance of any kind...but we still all (most of us) spend a lifetime of never having had to make a claim. Ditto for being an armed citizen.

There will never be a reconciliation of acceptance of the notion of being an armed citizen. Nor will there ever be a valid argument why not to.

Gun owners, 99% or higher, ARE responsible citizens with their version of insurance. It has nothing to do with the perceived or real need or not.

It is in the category of religion or politics. Nobody is right or wrong, it is a personal choice.

For those who have never been around guns, or those who have lived with them in family sporting....both have a distorted view of the subject. That is not a negative subject...just reality.

Now that is a good argument Billy. I haven't trouble with you or any other responsible person carrying a gun if it it what you believe is the right thing to do. It aches my heart for anyone who hasn't been here to think we are a .....dangerous armpit of the world. Plus there are a lot of people who are not aging hippies, who are very law conscious, who are decent people, who do not think it necessary to own a gun...YET. Now I'm done.
