A couple months ago my wife & I came upon a fanny pack in the middle of a parking lot.We went through it trying to find the owner and during this process we found several hundred dollars ,and NYC Police badge, and a handgun.Long story short we returned everything to the owner and all turned out fine.The( elderly) gentleman didn't realize it had dropped from his vehicle. He was grateful that someone responsible had found it.This could have turned out tragic. Just saying!!!

He's lucky you found it! But seniors are targeted by predators BECAUSE of their infirmities and diminishing capabilities. Unless one can afford a bodyguard, it is pretty much a person's only alternative against violent aggression. A single punch can KILL an elderly person. Did you read the recent article about the Ocala (Marion County) attempted armed robbery at a Wells Fargo ATM in which the victim was shot two times? Be safe, not sorry.

I don’t know if they offer insurance to “civilians” but the price is right. About $300 for $2M coverage, I have to pay a little extra to cover me during personal concealed carry. I believe they have an A+ with the BBB.

Concur 100+%! Cannot say enough good things about Tim Schmidt and the USCCA he founded several years ago. Besides the personal insurance protection mentioned in these posts, they provide some great resources for both the casual and serious shooter/CCW holder - especially in the arena of Training. In fact, I'm registered for a nationwide Webinar for tomorrow nite that should be very informative and helpful in several areas. Urge everyone to explore their options, and most definitely include the USCCA (lest I start a s**t-storm, even over the NRA!!) in that effort.

I'm not sure Safe is the word I'd use in this instance. Peace of mind maybe but I believe in regard to the elderly carrying we may find the chance of a deadly accident is high.

I would be interested in any stats you may have to support your belief. I think somewhat differently; that the elderly have a higher probability of victimization than of accidental injury due to a CCW.

In my research, I concluded that CCW Safe does not provide insurance against civil damages and judgements. It is only providing legal defense type services.

2. Look at various Concealed Weapons insurance companies and see what meets your needs in terms of coverage and cost.

I have U.S. Law Shield, based in Texas but with good coverage in Florida. They have a nationwide network of attorneys that can represent you in case of a "use" of a legal firearm. "Use" can include merely pointing it at someone as well as firing it.

They also provide a card for your wallet with a phone number to reach an attorney 24/7 in case of an incident, along with a sentence to say to the police until you can consult with the attorney.

3. Your Homeowner's Insurance almost certainly doesn't cover the theft of firearms without an extra cost rider.

You might want to go to the NRA web site and look into firearms theft insurance. It would be good if you were to join the NRA to help them fight for your continued right to keep and bear arms. It's cheap. I've been a LIfe Member for over a half a century.

4. If you are not completely familiar and comfortable handling firearms, get some instruction. I've never been to The Villages gun club, so cannot recommend them, but I suspect they are a great resource.

5. Practice shooting.

No stats just my belief. I'm sure you're right but that still doesn't ease my concern about arming the population of The Villages.

I think your concern is probably misplaced - and a day late. The Villages population is well armed from what I know. Most people I know already have CCW permits, and weapons in their home. The Straight Shooters Club has several thousand members. Yet, we don't have Chicago like shootings every day. I trust most Villagers to have the serious temperament and appropriate training that should be found with a citizen who carries a weapon legally.

USCCA has the best and most comprehensive coverage IMHO. As a Marine and Instructor I recommend this type of coverage to anyone who will conceal carry. We do not hesitate to "insure" every other aspect of our lives!
