Heard a rumor the other day that TV may be considering golf cart parking only on the streets at the squares. Sounds like a reasonable idea to me, lots more parking spaces available, more people would use their carts, and those that still want to drive their cars would park in the parking lots. What do you other posters think?

Love the idea, maybe with the exception of leaving the handicap spaces in front of the businesses.

Kinda doubt it would happen. Are they not public streets?

In which case they would need permission from the county. When we remodeled our office building we created a patient drop off zone so traffic could pass. It was on our property, just a 60 foot cut in adjacent to the street. It was a bureaucratic nightmare--meetings, forms, hearings, more meetings, more hearings. So good luck with this idea.

Are there more than 2 handicap parking squares around the squares to begin with? I only remember seeing 2 at Sumter. For me, a bigger nuisance than cars parking around the square is the fact that all the parking facing the square is roped off nearly at the crack of dawn two days a week for vendors nite.

I was under the impression these are public streets under city and county jurisdiction and maintenance. Thanks for correcting me. I personally would like to see carts only in the squares myself.

I seriously doubt this is going to happen. Another unfounded rumor. IMHO
Personally, it wouldn't be a problem for me as I rarely park my car in the square.

Hello! the Public Squares are open to "the public" and that's why they are called "Public Squares at Lake Sumter, etc" and not "The Villages Square at". Methinks a troll lurks about. Besides I don't like driving my cart to the square as the wind messes my hair

This would never happen. What makes anyone think that everyone has a golf cart? On my street I only know of 4 carts.
How would the outsiders get into the squares? Restaurants and shops depend on the general public to survive. |

I actually think that golf carts only on the squares would lead to more problems.
While some of the villagers might be aware of this change (if enacted), very few if any of the visitors would be aware. As pointed out previously, these roads are public roads (no gate keys), and the outside public would not be aware of the changes. I can just imagine the traffic nightmare getting visitors to parking lots, and then getting them back out when going home. IMHO, a past suggestion of a courtesy shuttle from the parking lots may work better, like they have at the hospital, you park and lock your vehicle, and they provide transportation to the hospital. With the continuously increasing population, maybe the developer should be researching parking decks to provide additional spaces.
