Default Lack of maintenance around Hogeye Preserve

While walking on the path between Edna’s and the multi modal path paralleling the Turnpike, I counted the number of broken, unattached and missing wooden fence slats that separate the path from Hogeye. I was surprised the number to be fifteen.

Most of these have been in disrepair since Hurricane Milton last fall…some longer. It seems that six months should be sufficient time to make these repairs.

Make a phone call to the correct people or type up a post on TOTV. Decisions, decisions.

Wooden fences planks warp and pull nails out depending on weather conditions and condition of wood when installed. 15 for thousands of yards of fencing IMO not that bad.

Who are the correct people for that?

True. Does someone have too much time on their hands?

I haven't walked the path lately, but I drive the MMP between the turnpike and hogeye. I see that the broken fence rails have been marked with red flagging, indicating that they have been inspected and marked for repair. Probably by a follow up District maintenance crew or contractor. There are fences like this all over the villages, I have seen repair crews making their way around. I didn't see any that were damaged by the hurricane except where a tree fell, most is from normal warping.

It is inexcusable. The focus is all on Eastport now.

A lot of those fence railings were under water for over a month with the flooding after the hurricane. I would expect a lot of warping.

If you pay attention there is a gentleman that parks his vehicle along roads with black wooden fences. I have probably passed him 20-30 times all over TV in the past few years, always the same car, with the back end loaded with paint cans, brushes.

I can only hope there is a group working on the miles of fence, not just him

No one here can help you with this. Why not call someone at The Villages Parks and Recreation.

Personally, I think it gives it a far more rustic look. Having been raised in the middle of BFE (bum fckd Egypt), broken fense pieces are normal.

Look at the glass and instead of thinking it is half empty, realize they accidentally gave you a double but only charged for a single.

Life is good, let it be.

I recommend calling Property Management, phone #352-753-4022.

Don’t hold your breath for repairs. Everything is budgeted. However I think they need to budget more on fencing or change to low maintenance fence products instead of crappy wood with crappy Florida Paint stain. Yes more $ but over time costs less.

I believe it is every resident’s responsibility to help alert property management to keep all areas looking their best, especially areas that can easily get overlooked. After all how often does one see a property management truck driving out there at Hoyeye? Good maintenance makes The Villages more appealing to potential buyers

I’m sure they’ll get to it when they can. In the meantime might try counting the birds, gators, beautiful trees or any other forms of beauty on the trail.
