My husband and I have been looking at pre-owned homes in TV on the internet and have come across a few with a small pool and spa. Would like some info on how costly they are to maintain and how much work they are to keep clean. And if you have a pool and/or spa, would you have one again? Also, does it raise you insurance rates to have one? Thanks. Hope to be coming to the TV in a few months to look in person.

Yes the insurance goes up, but only 10 15 dollars a month. We have both and would never be without either. Have had spa and pool for over 35 years everywhere we have lived. Cost to operate is about 75 dollars a month for both including elec and chemicals. Less trouble to operate here in Florida than any other place we have lived partly due to the bird cage keeping the pool so clean and long season to use it. We now only use the hot tub when the pool is not up to temp or the air is too cool to enjoy a pool. About 9 months pool and 5 months hot tub. That is an overlap of both about one month in the fall and spring.

Hard to determine unless you answer other questions. Is there effective solar heating? If so, you will still spend more than $1000 in the colder months to bring the spa up to 100 degrees if you use it fairly regularly. If no solar, that gas bill will be about triple. Are you going to maintain it yourself? If so, a salt chlorination system is cheaper and easier. You can hire reputable people to clean and keep the right chemical balance in a standard chlorine pool/spa for about $1000 a year.Budget at least $1000 a year for equipment repair and replacement, especially if the pool is more than 5 years old. A pool/spa combination is absolutely the most enjoyable luxury you can have - IMHO.
