Unhappy Large Animal in Attic

We recently had a leak which came up out of the baseboard into our living room. Called the contractor who installed the siding and he said it looked like the leak was coming from the roof. Called the roofer who installed a new roof 3 years ago on our 2006 home ($5,500). Roofer said a large animal had pushed up a soffit to enter the attic () and that was where the leak was originating,he said it had to be large to push up such a large area, he sealed the entry. He pointed out another area where the soffit was pushed up and said he would put guards up in 4 placed for $400. A couple of years ago I did see a possum but I have never seen a raccoon in this area. He said it wasn't a squirrel but a much larger animal. Anyway $400 seems like a lot of money and would like to know if anyone has had a similar problem with animals taking up residence in their home. We live in Tall Trees.

I had a racoon family take up residence in the attic in a home I had up north.
They gained entry through an air vent.
Got hold of a guy called trapper Bill and he set a trap.
He apparently new what he was doing because he trapped them all.
Supposedly he relocated them far away.
I fastened heavy mesh hardware screen
over the vent opening after I was sure they were all out.
They never returned.
Just make sure the animals are out of the attic area before everything is sealed,
since if they are trapped they can claw through a
ceiling or wall to get out!
I also have a Possum story, he dug his way under a concrete step to get into a crawl space under a sunroom.
Again trapper Bill set and baited a trap and the critter
was bagged in a day.
You may want to see if you can find a trapper in the area and get his opinion on your situation.
Siding and roofers may not have the experience that an animal control person would.

duffysmom: Sorry to hear of your problem. you do not make mention if you had a pest control guy check your attic to determine if the critter has taken residence there? you may want to give that consideration? I don't know if $400 is too much for what the contractor wants but his recommendation is sound. Its apparent this critter will be back and perhaps with his/her family

Best of luck and if you have additional information concerning this issue please keep us advised.

Personal Best Regards:

A raccoon entered our roof space by pulling the heavy wire off an air vent.

We called Gary DePalma and he got rid of it and put on new wire for $325 - no problems since
