The first time I saw a smart car was when I was in Italy 5 years ago. They are all over the place there as gas is much more expensive in Europe than here. I thought the smart cars looked like toys. You wouldn't get me on the Dan Ryan Expressway, the Tri-State Tollway or on I-90 heading into Indiana from Chicago in one of the smart cars with all of the semis that travel on those roads. I already have enough gray in my hair, one ride in a smart car on a Chicago area expressway, and I would have a headful of gray hair. Not that there is anything wrong with gray hair.

I know what you mean... We saw a bunch in Europe, but that's all we saw were small cars and cycles.

There is one in Orland Park and I can't see how they would be able to take it out in the snow! I giggle at the thought of it spinning like a cartoon....

However for TV I could see how it would work quite nicely. I think we got a picture of the Smartcar parked side by side with the carts when we were there!!!

I amuse easily....

Thanks for adding that last part since I do have a full head of gray hair.....never did get into the chemical thing.....I think all mine were arrived at when each of my 3 kids were learning how to drive in I-270 in MD......and we had a very big Chevy Suburban then! Now talk about probably not fitting into a villa garage....fortunately my soon to be ex is getting it and I get the little Saturn L2. That would fit into almost anything!

the garage in a CYV is 1-1/2 cars, it'll fit a reasonable car and a golf cart.
it's about 14-15' wide. Not the best option if you need a lot of storage, but enough if you don't pile up too much.

Default some CYV garages are extra deep

I haven't measured, but probably the specs are listed somewhere. We have all kinds of stuff in the garage in front of the car - 3 bikes, a lawnmower, an extra vacuum cleaner, etc) and if we didn't have 2 golf carts, could also fit lots more (besides a work bench) in front of a golf cart on the other side.

But - it's true that it is a little tough to park a large car beside the 2 golf carts (but it can be done if you are careful). It's more the curved driveway than the size of the garage - a little tricky.

Default To Ohio Girl

What model of CYV do you have...I would guess not a Grantham for sure?

We have a Siesta and I fit my motorcycle, Toyota Highlander and golf cart in the garage. I could fit another golf cart in there if I had one. Wouldn't have too much room to play field hockey but there is room enough to do it.

Ha... we moved down here with our Toyota Tundra and Subaru Outback. We're temporarily renting a CYV until we can move into our new home. We tried putting the Tundra in the CYV's garage and it barely squeezed in but there would be absolutely no room for anything else in there. We have been parking the Subaru in there just fine with our two bicycles, but that's about all that would fit. We'll be selling the Subaru and/or the truck. Soon!

Default patio villas with 2 car garages??

Are there any patio villas with 2 garages that were built after 2000?

If so, are there any for sale at the present time?

Default dont think so

I have never seen a patio villa with a 2 car garage. But - the driveways are straight in (unlike most CYVs), making it easier to get your vehicle in the garage with a golf cart. The CYVs I have seen that have 2 car garages DO have straight-in driveways, but I don't think they will fit 2 cars AND a golf cart, just roomier with 1 car and 1 golf cart (or 2). Someone will correct if this is wrong.

I think some of the "cottages" (used to be ranches) have same or very similar floor plans to some patio villas, but do have 2 car garages, and some have 2 car garages plus a golf cart garage. There are cottage floor plans with 2 and 3 bedrooms. Patio villas (to my knowledge, anyway) are one or two bedrooms - not sure if they are even building new patio villas with only 1 bedroom, though.

Hi pivo As you may have noticed, the interior garage space differs from model to model of house. As others have mentioned, most CYV's have a 1&1/2 car garage, and most can't be stretched later, so it is what it is.
In addition, some models have the laundry located in the garage, and that location can vary as well.

Almost all CYV's have a short, curved driveway. Depending on which side of the street you are on, the curve is either to the left or right. Typically, you can park one car on the drive if you like, but two won't fit. There will be very limited guest parking within your neighborhood compound, but we aren't allowed to claim and use it personally as additional garage space, and permanent on the street parking is not allowed.(It is a hazard)

Most everyone will offer suggestions on how they make the garage space work for them. I won't go through all that, except to say that things fit better than we thought they would.

What DID help before we even bought in TV, was to tape off the CYV garage measurements inside our existing garage up north.(From the model that we liked the best.) Having that visual helped us, not only to decide what we could function with as to vehicles, but also realize quickly what "stuff" HAD to be eliminated, and not dragged along. Basically, helped to let us wrap our heads around the whole garage concept and gave us time to think.

In the end, we chose a CYV because we really WANTED to downsize, live a simpler lifestyle, and have uncluttered surroundings. That's not heaven to everyone, but has been liberating to us. I found that we have adapted painlessly, and so far we don't miss anything we let go of.
That said, my hubby still has a motorcycle, air compressor, big ladder and tools.... just not thousands of them. We house the car and golf car too. (but our laundry is INSIDE.)
It really was great to eliminate BEFORE we moved.
If you come down on a lifestyle visit, you'll know SO much, that your choice will be easy. Listen to your gut. You'll make the choices perfect for you.
(and I just realized this topic is not a brand new post.... sorry!)
