I walk the dog every morning from Arnold Palmer CC heading South to OLD mill Run Circle and then on to Stillwater Trail Circle and back.
There is always an occasional snake, usually dead along the way especially from the Riley Grove starter shack and along the pond South of there.
This morning....6....six....SIX!!!!!!!
Three dead from being run over....3 alive and well and headed from the grass to cross the path. Ranging in length from 12 to 24 inches and size from a pencil to as big as my thumb (2 like the latter).

They were not rattlers, but could have been water moccasins or just plain old water snakes....none appeared to be garter snakes. SInce my motto is treat them all as if they were ALL poisonous and give a wide birth....they are usually in as much of a hurry to get away from us as we are of them.

I walk with an eye toward the edge of the grass and path...ALAWAYS.

PS it could be the new construction at the corner of Old Mill Run and Buena Vista has stirred them up....but they were mostly along the pond area.

There are a lot of black racer and corn snakes around. They keep the rodent population down. I usually just say hi and go on my way.

Actually, I don't mind spiders so much. But, eekkk, I hate snakes!! I understand their role in the ecosystem and all...but...eeekkk....hate 'em....I guess they are coming out in full force to warm up after the extreme cold snap we've experienced in Florida. Sunbathing snakes.
