Default Cruising to the Villages instead of the Mediterranean

Hi Everyone,

January of 2013 my husband and I booked a Mediterranean 10 day cruise on Celebrity Cruise line for our 30th anniversary it was due to depart on October 8, 2013. In April we decided to move to the Villages. so we cancelled our cruise as we knew there might be a conflict with the move date. So instead of being on the Mediterranean coast, I will be waiting for my moving van to take all my boxes tomorrow and bring it to The Villages where weill be living full time beginning this weekend. My husband still promises that we will go on our cruise someday, but what better way to start the second half of our life together in our new home. We were married 30 years ago and never left Long Island. We now begin the next 30 years of our marriage, hopefully if our health is good. Look forward to meeting new friends and hope The Villages is all it promises to be. We are in the Collier section. If you see a moving truck next week on Brandywine Ct. that will be us. Please stop and say hi !

Dear Ann & Phil,

Great choice on The Villages verses cruising.

Hope y'all have many years of happiness!

See you in the square

Welcome to The Villages, but you must do that cruise, and soon, while your still young enough to enjoy it. We did that same cruise several years back, and it was our, hands down, favorite vacation. Celebrity is a great cruise line.

I echo Rollie. If you have the chance, do the Eastern Mediterranean cruise. We did it earlier this year and on Celebrity. A wonderful cruise and the stops were wonderful.

I also recommend doing it while you are 'younger' because some of the stops are a bit more rigorous that you would find on a Caribbean cruise.

Congrats to you both! The Med cruise is of course a "must do" but so is "The Villages"! My husband and I cruised in July on the Queen Mary 2 to Norway for our very cruise and it was brilliant! We said when we sold the house here in the UK we would do the "Med" cruise but we now do not have time! We close on the 22nd of October and will be in TV on the 1st of November so we shall not be far behind you. If we buy new then we may be in Collier too so we shall keep an eye out for you. Good luck and best wishes from us to here in England! Amy & Tony

You are in The Villages !

The good news is that cruising just got easier. You are now just a short drive from the cruise ports of Tampa, Port Canaveral, Ft. Lauderdale and Miami.

Not only does this give you a wide variety of Caribbean cruise itineraries, but also trans-Atlantic and trans-Panama Canal cruises. Some repositioning cruises at the change of seasons are very reasonably priced.

Ft. Lauderdale is the port for sailing to Europe. It is also the destination port for cruises originating in Canada and heading south.

Miami is a good start for heading to the eastern and southern Caribbean. Port Canaveral and Tampa tend to have more sailings to the western Caribbean.

I'm told, although I have never done it, that you can get on lists for cheap fares for last minute boardings on cruises that are underbooked. There are probably people who read this board who have had this experience. The key is to be available to travel on short notice.

In any event.......... welcome to The Villages

Post Future travel!

Happy 30th anniversary! It must be a bit disappointing to cancel the cruise, but at the same time, moving to TV is something to be excited about! Travel can wait for a while, but definitely go on the cruise - it sounds like such a blast!! I have never been on a cruise, but it is on my bucket list! We sold our home in southeastern, PA in June and have been living in our motorhome since then. We bought a house in TV to live in the winter months (we close on 10/22 and will move in after Thanksgiving) but plan on traveling in our RV the rest of the time. There is so much to see and do in the world and being retired gives us the opportunity to do it while our health is good. We have always been on the east coast, so we are ready to head out west this spring!

Default Cruise on clans

We think living in TV is like a cruise on land. Lots of geat entertainment, activities and the drinks are a lot less than the 9 bucks you will pay on a cruise.
