I am thinking about a D5 evolution 4 seat, 2+2 golf cart with the non aggressive street tires. Is there a way to find the maximum height of the tunnels? I remember something about driving down the middle or you scrape the top? I can't find the post.
Thanks |

EDIT: It looks like the list of tunnels has been updated. Some in the Sawgrass area that seemed too short now have better numbers.

So far our D5 from Hidden Creek Golf carts has been very good. I found the old thread 2024 Evolution DS Ranger 4

The standard D5 Ranger can't make it through two tunnels as delivered. The D5 2+2 is about 2" higher, so it's a hard no on those two tunnels, and brings another two into play.
You can't stay to the center for two reasons: 1) Both of the shorter tunnels have cement dividers at the ends... so you're going to be forced to go to the side, and you will hit it -HARD. 2) Even if you could go to the center, how can you expect folks to sit back and wait for you to come through the tunnel? It's an accident waiting to happen. If you golf, the D5 2+2 bag holder is a terrible design. Trust me, you'll hate it after one round of golf. For the D5 Ranger, you can lower the roof by cutting down the rear struts giving you an additional 2"+ of clearance. You'll still have to be very careful with this or you'll scrape on the sides. I did this and put 12" wheels on in place of the stock 14" wheels lowering my cart another 2.5". Now I'm about the same as a Yamaha, and never come close. |

I'd stay clear of those carts. Why even consider them if your always going to worry when you approach a tunnel. I'm surprised that they even sell them with that problem of the height. Get a YAMAHA.

They sell them this way because they sell nationally - The Villages is not their only market. No where else will you find the tunnel situation that exists in The Villages. Regardless, there are several very easy solutions to the height issue for the Evo D5 Ranger (4 forward facing seats): 1) Lower the rear of the roof by 2-2 1/2". The rear of the roof is much taller than the front. Most dealers will do this for free. Have it done before getting your rain enclosure, otherwise you'll have to pay to shorten it. 2) Put smaller tires on it. Stock tires are 14" wheels with 225/50r14 tires. Installing 12" wheels with 215/40r12 tires lowers the cart by another 2.5". My dealer swapped them out for free. If you do both #1 and #2, your cart will be about the same height as the Yamaha, but will still ride better, have more features, and is a much better looking design. If you go with the D5 2+2 (instead of 4 forward), the cart is even taller, making it more difficult to get it where it needs to be. |

I would never pay 23K for a Yamaha cart. You can save thousands by buying outside The Villages and have it delivered to your driveway. The jury is still out on the reliability of those D5 carts. Yamaha is a provern machine already.
