Default Daily Sun

A general question regarding the Villages Media Group. Most of us have seen the changes at the Villages Television Station, the familiar group of personalities are gone. The present group, in my opinion, have such a hard time just reading their scripts it makes one wonder where this is going? To that end, I have heard that the Daily Sun is available for sale. Can anyone confirm this rumor?

Default Media Group Shrinking

I know nothing about The Daily Sun being on the sales block, but just from casual outside observation I would say like many media outlets the economy is taking its toll there too.
The television product is a sad, unprofessional embarrassment. I'm sure it's expensive to operate and the product will never pay for itself in its current form. It's nice that TV has this outlet so residents can see friends and events on television, but the operation has lost its appeal, its timeliness, and apparently no longer serves much purpose for the developer.
The newspaper cutbacks have been more discreet but IMHO the writing is less professional and appealing than it once was. Still, you won't know the score in TV without a scorecard (DailySun) and it remains the best "scratchpad" for the developer to influence thought and opinion. For this reason I believe the newspaper will at worst die a slow death before it is ever sold. Controlling the message is still very important to the commercial success of TV. It's still a better source for local news than any of its newspaper alternatives.
IMHO for the most accurate Villages pulse-reading nothing today beats TOTV.

We returned for the winter in November and could not believe how much the television station has sunk. I never put it on anymore unless I want to watch yet more coverage of the Village Twirlers. I can't get enough of that.

the newspaper is great for the ads and for the news on what is happening in TV. That is its sole purpose and it serves it well. If you are looking for national news, in depth business or sports coverage or international news, look elsewhere. that's what I do.

I'm curious, has the Developer, Mr Morse's picture ever been in The Daily Sun? For example, when the hospital was opened and dedicated or when the Susan Morse bldg was opened was there a ceremony where The Morses attended and photos followed in the Sun? I continue to be intriqued by their mysterious absence from the public.

The "Family" is entitled to their privacy. They are not celebrities. They are private citizens. There is nothing mysterious about their absence from the public.

I believe the late Mr. Schwartz was well known to the residents and was easily recognized when he was seen in The Villages. But, that was when The Villages was small. And even then he was approached on numerous occasions.

One can only imagine what it would be like if, for instance, Mr. Morse was to move about anywhere in The Villages if he was easily recognizable. As it is he can move about freely without interference. Who knows, maybe the next time you are at one of the squares and get into a conversation with a stranger, they may be "Family".

The president of the United State is entitled to privacy too. My question was a simple one. Have they ever been in the newspaper? All I need is a yes or no... not a lecture about how they are entitled to privacy.

I thought I saw a picture of the ground breaking of the hospital with the family memebers.

About half way down the page is the heading:

Sorry, I didn't mean to lecture. Please accept my apology for doing so.
I hate it when people lecture on these forums and now I am one of them.
Yes there have been pictures in the newspaper of some of the developer's family including Mr. Mark Morse. I don't remember if I saw it in the Daily Sun as I was also receiving the Orlando Sentinel at the time.
Gary Morse has addressed the HOA and I don't know if pictures resulted.

Default I enjoy the Daily Sun!

I don’t understand why people are critical of the Daily Sun. It is a newspaper owned by the developer and of course they want to present a ‘good news’ newspaper without all of the gloom and doom that you can get every day by watching the news. It is a medium to provide us information about the Villages and the Villages clubs and lifestyle – it was never meant to be the Orlando Sentinel or the New York Times. If that is what you want – subscribe to those papers. I think the Daily Sun does a great job of touching on the highlights – or low lights – on world news and sports and then moves on to just what we (or at least I) moved here for – the Villages lifestyle. I always find something interesting to read – a good news story – and it has the comics and crossword puzzles – in a larger font for my aging eyes. And it only costs a quarter! What a deal – lighten up everyone and take it for what its worth.

Well said and I agree.
