Default Declaration of domicile

My mother who lives with us has been investigating residency requirements and has a reference that says that we should file a declaration of domicile pursuant to 222.17 of the Florida Statutes with the Clerk of the Circuit Court in the county of residence. Has anyone done this? I don't see why this is necessary if you have a Florida drivers license and registered the car and registered to vote.

Look at Chapter 222 as a whole. It is all about protecting certain assets from levys, etc. The section you refer to is just to protect a homestead from levys or forced sale. Homestead has a whole different meaning and protection under the Florida Constitution (Art. X, Section 4) that has nothing to do with homestead exemption from property taxes. I don't think section 222.17 applys to just living in Florida and owning property unless there are circumstances affecting a property owner losing his/her home. It would be interesting to see in what context this was referenced in the material you are reading.
