[Count'n the days]

We have our design meeting 8/26. We do not plan to return to TV until we are ready to close - at which time we also plan our household move. Seems like a lot to happen in such a short amount of time, but I have the impression it's done quite often with folks moving to TV. Any advice you can give will be appreciated - anything from padding time on a close date, updates during build, or selecting the movers. Thank you.

Your closing date will be fixed. Check that off your list as far as timing. TV is not flexible on closing dates except with significant monetary penalty. If you'd like updates while your home is being built, try this...When you're in TV for your design meeting, go to your lot, pick the closest homes already built---and knock on those new neighbor's doors. I'll bet one of them would take pictures to send you so you can see the progress of your build. If not, pm me and I'll do it! My husband and I were just thrilled when a new neighbor-to-be volunteered to do that for us!

As far as co-ordinating your move...Do your homework on movers. And remember that at 50 cents per pound, it's pretty easy to leave "stuff" behind!

as we go thru our rooms to move things, tag what has to go, what is a maybe, and get rid of everything else you have three months take a room a week and have at it. we have cut the what has to go in half, cause we can live without it

Awesome you're moving to The Villages. We are too. We are planning to close by mail. Then we'll have our move in the next few weeks after the closing. That way we'll do one thing at a time. When you close by mail, your sales person will do a walk through with the builder and let you know how things are. Then when you get there, you will also do another walk through with the builder. Also, our salesman is having someone take pictures every week so we can see the progress.

The person is right who posted that closing dates are set by developers agents and no negotiating, but that date is completely dependable. Unbelievable but they never miss.

We sold our house quickly and rented while our home was being built. Easily found a home to rent, it was summer, and even a rental who took our dog. We stored a lot of stuff in rental's garage and rental unit here. If you shop around re-moving your furniture here is less expensive by far than storage by moving company you contract with up north.

Also think of moving part of your really expensive and heavy stuff by big mover and possibly storing that part with them (expensive) and part by you driving truck rental or pulling trailer. You can get unloaders here, that are by far cheaper than back where you are from.

Great info. Thanks. We have already sold our house and down sized our furniture and garage to essentials. Now, we just need to sort through personal items. We are in a lease that ends on 11/15. I believe that date should be pretty close to when the house will be finished. Can you request the start of the build start date to meet your close date, or are you saying you have no say in when they start your build?

When you have your design appointment, you lock in the price; the start date and closing date are also locked in. And those dates are set in stone!
