Angry Do we need another thread on roundabouts? Apparently so…

How I wish I had a video cam on my windshield today as I headed north on Buena Vista just before noon. A video would tell the tale of maneuvering through two successive roundabouts much better than I can.
I was in the left lane on the first roundabout when the driver of a small brown Mini Cooper in the right lane accelerated and cut me off so he could go around the roundabout. Quick reflexes and good brakes enabled me to avoid a near collision. The driver yells that he is “allowed” to go around the roundabout from the outside lane. Why would anyone think that making what is essentially a left turn from the right lane is ever a good idea especially when the painted arrows on the road clearly identify the right lane is for turning right or traveling straight?
OK so I avoided that collision and proceeded up Buena Vista being ever more vigilant. At the next roundabout I stopped, yielding to cars already in the roundabout and had a front row seat to the next calamity. A car cut off another car in the inner lane forcing that car to drive up onto the grassy median hitting flowers, shrubs, and what appeared to be a black irrigation pole (which flew out into the roadway towards me). With visible damage to its front bumper the car traveled across part of the median and came back onto the roadway. Neither car stopped and within seconds the roundabout cleared out and those of us heading north up Buena Vista continued on our trek.
All I needed to do was simply run a few errands but within a short period of time I was nearly involved in two accidents. Yes, there are a million posts on TOTV about roundabouts but the sh---y driving continues.
So, to both of those jerks in roundabouts on Buena Vista at 11:45 today please read the Sumter County Roundabout pamphlet (see attached). It says specifically “Do not change lanes within the roundabout” and “Do not use the right lane to make a left turn through the roundabout.” Neither of you belong driving until you know how to properly navigate an automobile.

As it has been said before. 25% of the villagers are drunk or drugged. 25% are senile, blind, or dead behind the wheel, a further 25% are banned from driving and dodging the police, whist the remaing 25% are trying to avoid the other 75%.
No amount of hair rending, or eye gouging is going to change the way it is here.

Ahhh, but you should have been at the roundabout on Buena Vista and Pinellas this evening around 5:00. As I was exiting the Pinellas gate, and heavy traffic was headed south on Buena Vista around the circle, along comes a golf cart...going the wrong way around the circle and exited toward the Pinellas gate!!! I don't know where she came from, but thank goodness the drivers coming around the circle were paying attention. I don't know how there wasn't an accident. That woman certainly had a guardian angel looking out for her today. And I thought I had seen it all. Be careful out there.

Yup...we saw a car in the outside (right) lane go 3/4 around the roundabout and exit in front of someone who was going straight. I wish folks would read the green signs and also just pay attention. We too nearly experienced 2 accidents the other day...good thing we were the observant ones. I continually see impatience being employed while I'm out and about.:

I hope the driver of the red Tesla crossover SUV (or hatchback ) is reading this thread. He's another one who goes three-fourths of the way around the roundabout in the right-hand lane.

Its one of those new fangled self-driving models. Musk told his engineers that he wanted a computer built into his Telsa's that acted just as if a human being were driving it.

On a similar topic, I was driving my cart on Hillsborough the other night about 30 feet behind another cart, while a car was approaching from behind. The cart driver put his left turn signal on, but given the angles, I doubt the car could see it. He then made a left turn directly from the cart lane in front of the car, forcing him to slam on his brakes and fish tail slightly. Thank God for anti-lock brakes or I might be dead because of this idiot's actions. If you are going to drive a cart, do the rest of us a favor and learn how.

Playing golf last week, I was riding with someone in my group who I had always thought was a pretty smart guy...and has lived here over 10 years.

Going form the green of the hole we had just finished to the tee of the next hole, we had to get on the road with a cart lane.

He stayed in the cart lane until the last second, then took a hard 90 degree left (turn signals on, but no hand signal) toward the golf cart path to the next hole...and crossed the road right in front of a car coming.

I grabbed the cart roof and yelled, but he seemed unperturbed.

I then told him that he should ALWAYS get into the vehicle lane a little bit prior to making a left and he very righteously told me... "that isn't legal or the way to do it and that car would have been in the wrong had it hit us, because we had the right-of-way."

Needless to say...I will be trying to limit my future rides with him.

Apparently this "intelligent" person doesn't read any of the articles re: how to drive in The Villages---either automobiles or carts. The POA or whatever it's called came out yesterday and has a good article re: safety as well. I don't blame you for never riding with this fool again. Wonder if he's on social media here in The Villages??!!!
