Default Atomic Cart Ion Charger

Did anyone hear about an optional upgrade to have Atomic install the charger for the ION model with Lithium Ion batteries back into the vehical instead of using the external charger? They are charging for this upgrade. Any thoughts if this it's better to have the charger in the vehical like we used to have with the lead acid batteries vs external like we have now with the LI Ion batteries? The only thing I can think of is if you want to charge the cart somewhere else other than your home you can just plug it in vs taking the charger with you. On the other hand if the external charger ever goes bad after the warranty, It's easy to go on Amazon and get another vs going to Atomic.

Maybe the Villages is going to have 110VAC charging plugs where you pay to charge any electric cart by plugging it in?

I decided to get the work done and have the internal charger installed. The result, the internal charger is incredibly quieter and the power cord gets a little warm but not hot like the external charger. It looks like to me upon inspection that they found a sealed water resistent charger and it's installed under the rear section of the cart. The new charger has a "real" charging supply cord with a 3 prong plug that plugs into the cart and the red and green charging lights are now by the charging port on the cart. The rate of charging seems to be about the same as the external charger. See the attached pictures.

The external charger worked just fine but I found it very noisey and I didn't like the fact that the power cord got so hot when charging for a long time.

The price for this upgrade varies depending if your lithium batteries are still within the 3 year warranty.

While this upgrade isn't something you have to do if you are fine with the external charger, I wanted to provide my experience for those who might be interested.

I would think Tesla supercharger would be installed long before cart charging. Plus that “charge cart only” parking space would be used by a car, just because.

Now that Costco is open both our boys drive up to charge. Then stop once at a Buccee’s.

Originally I wasn't sure why Atomic was offering the charger upgrade but upon further discussion with them, the new internal charger is a more robust unit than the external charger and you can just plug it into any 110VAC outlet, like the ones that may be poping up around the Villages without worrying about the external charger getting wet if it rains. It also runs a lot cooler and quieter.
