About 10 days ago I emailed Shooters World in Tampa and received a reply the same day. They said they don't plan on breaking ground now until after the first of the year and it was too soon to announce any details. Here's the story from Village News.
Shooters World to break ground on new store, gun range in The Villages BY META MINTON AUGUST 17, 2016 Ground will be broken before the first of the year for a new gun range and store in The Villages. Shooters World, which operates a store and gun range in Tampa, is set to build a golf-cart accessible facility here in Florida’s Friendliest Hometown. Shooters World offers training specifically tailored for women. The Villages Straight Shooters club takes monthly bus trips to the Shooters World facility in Tampa. When Villagers started talking about residents’ enthusiasm for target shooting and personal protection, Shooters World General Manager Bruce Kitzis became interested in an opportunity here. Though he isn’t ready just yet to disclose the location in The Villages, he confirmed the store and range will be located in the Sumter County section. Floridians’ desire for personal safety and protection has resulted in strong growth for Shooters World which is also working on a new location in Orlando. “People are more and more concerned about safety,” said Kitzis. Women in particular are showing those concerns. Women are the fastest-growing demographic for the business. To meet that need, Shooters World offers classes tailored specifically for women. You can learn more about Shooters World at Firearms Store & Classes | Shooting Range & More at Shooters World You can also follow them on Facebook at Shooters World | Facebook Or signup for a free weekly newsletter at info@shootersworld.com I emailed Basics Gun & Range in Orange Park the same day and also received a reply the same day. They said they didn't have any updates to release at this time. Here's the story from Village News and a similar piece appeared in The Sun. Big crowd shows up to hear proposal for indoor gun range BY META MINTON JUNE 20, 2016 A big crowd showed up Monday night for a conceptual presentation of a proposed indoor gun range on U.S. Hwy. 27/441. The facility would be built on a 12-acre parcel located just north of the Lady Lake Realty Site, north of Griffin View Drive and east of U.S. Hwy. 27/441, near the Orange Barn. The 24,150-square-foot building would include a 20-lane tactical and bull’s eye indoor gun range. It would also include a gun shop and educational area. Basics Range and Gun LLC would operate the gun range and has the property under contract. The company already operates a gun range in Orange Park. Richard Rodgers, director of Oak Grove Homeowners Association, raised concerns about traffic and safety barriers. The Oak Grove Subdivision is located near the proposed gun range. Those opposed to the proposed indoor gun range raise their hands Monday night at a Lady Lake Commission meeting. By a show of hands, it appeared that supporters outnumbered those opposed to the gun range. Among those in the audience were members of the Straight Shooters Club in The Villages. But Dave Hodgkins, who lives on Ivanhoe Circle, said he opposes the gun range. “This would be in my back yard, and I don’t want it,” Hodgkins said. The man who wants to develop the gun-range, had a video shown that demonstrated the volume of the noise from the shooting. The video indicated the gun noise was barely audible from the exterior. “For me this is a calling, I am looking to help people,” said Franklin Dickinson, owner of Basics Gun Range. He said he opens his current facility to law enforcement for training and is providing safety classes for women and children. “I don’t have rednecks. I don’t have ruffians,” he said. “It is family oriented.” Commissioner Tony Holden raised concerns about flooding in the area. He said about a decade ago the area witnessed heavy flooding. “I think there are better places in the area you could have put this,” Holden said. He was in the minority. Four of the five commissioners said they would like to see the proposal advance. |

Great location, and changing the breaking ground timeline to January probably coincides with the progress that is going on at that site. Also, on the Village News online site, Shooters World has a click ad that states 'Coming to the Villages'. When you click on it, it takes you to their Tampa website but doesn't give any updates.
