We are moving into our pre-owned home the first week in June and since we have always enjoyed doing our own yard maintenance, we plan on doing the same in TV. We come from an already hot & humid climate so we know what's in store for us.
My question is about pest control and from reading several posts on TOTV, it seems that if the perimeter of your home has good barrier treatment, you usually don't need an indoor pest control treatment. This seems logical to me but I wanted to check with current Villagers to see if this is true. For those of you who do your own pest control, what chemicals, etc. do you find most effective (we do have an inside dog) and how often do you spray the perimeter? Also would like to know if there is a do it yourself lawn treatment plan appropriate for our climate (something like a Scott's year round plan; fertilizer, lawn pests, etc.). Thanks for taking the time to read this and especially for those who can provide some assistance. Looking forward to getting to our new home. |

We use Ortho Home defense inside and outside, less than a gal a year.
However we don't have indoor pets. We did our own lawn treatments, fertilizer, lawn pests etc., for two years, but after adding up the costs for these chemicals, found it was cheaper using an outside service. I also use a professional termite service. Last edited by NoMoSno; 05-18-2016 at 10:30 AM. |

We also use ortho home defense and don't have pets. We did one initial treatment inside a year ago when we first started and now we only do the perimeter every 3 months. We have had no pests in the house at all. He will occasionally treat the inside of the garage also. Ortho is supposed to be safe for humans to use inside but there are specific instructions on the bottle about how to do this including vacating the house for a specific amount of time and letting the treatment dry before allowing children or pets back inside.

Our termite bond is with Deans. They treat the perimeter once a year for termites. For all other pests, I have used CrossXcheck for 12 years. I apply it 3 times a year to the perimeter of the house, the inside of the garage, and all plants and shrubs. I havent needed to treat the interior of the home. For the lawn, I use Zoysia Green. They treat every other month for weed/feed purposes. The cost is $45 per application and their number is 352-323-8454.
CrossXcheck can be purchased at any John Deere store. |

there is a very nice do it your self store in mount dora and another in ocala.
we use termidor some times talstar....on the outside of our home, we usually change up so the bugs don't get accustomed to the insecticde. advise given to us by the store personnel. keeps everything out and we reapply about every 3-5 months. The do it your self store personnel will supply you with everything you need. there are many choices. and best of all its way less expensive than hiring someone to do it for you. Easy to mix and spray.... good luck.... |

Home defender inside and Talstar Pro outside. Amazon.com: 3/4 gal Talstar Pro / One Multi Use Pest Control Insecticide (96 ounce jug): Industrial & Scientific
I would not expect any problems. Outside is done quarterly. Talstar also protects against termites and that is why I use it outside. Inside is monthly and I spray the window ledges as the light attracts what bugs their are. |

Do you happen to have the stores addresses or website where I can check out locations. Sounds like a very helpful place

I use Ortho home defense a couple times a year and have not ever had any problem. It takes 15 minutes.
