I don't like the brown colour of the kitchen cabinets in our new house. The dilemma is do I have them professionally painted or have the doors replaced and the struts painted. Opinions and/or referrals appreciated.

Personally, if it were me, I would either replace the cabinets altogether or have them resurfaced. Just my opinion....

Have them painted. I used Steve @ On-Site Services -- 352-603-6402. He is very busy right now, but he did an exceptionally good job. Mentioning my name *might* help.

I don't know if things are different in The Villages compared to us in the Great White North (aka Minnesota), but it has been my experience as a plumbing contractor that cabinets painted in the field (by high end painting contractors) are still much more prone to "chipping" than those painted in a factory. I would probably opt for new doors

Steve is just finishing turning our dark cherry cabinets into cream with a brown glaze. He does not brush paint but sprays them which gives a smooth factory finish. You are very welcome to pm me and come see what he can do

What kind of prices and how does it compare with resurfacing?

Get professional painters to prime and spray paint them. We had it done before coming to TV, and friends here had it done with beautiful results.
Have seen no chipping after several years of use. There are excellent paints out there now, that cover easily and will not peel or chip. But get a professional to do it. |

I am in the process now of changing all the cabinets in the house from light oak to dark java. Using General Finishes Java Gel Stain. Did it my self,, little time consuming. But much cheaper than 15000 for new ones. Hopefully this photo will show up,,, Gives the whole kitchen a different look. Bathrooms are done also

I painted mine, lot of work, but worth it. I f you are not a good painter I would hire somebody to do it. You shoud use the best paint you can buy. Having them sprayed would be the best way to do it

Is this a NEW house? I would sell before I would touch new cabinets with paint.
Cabinets are THOUSANDS of dollars and can easily be ruined.
