Default picking through the trash?

just watched a fairly young couple in a pickup truck pull up to our trash pile at the end of our driveway and pick through it.

clearly not residents.

I hadn't realized locals were doing this? Is this typical? Not that I really give a damn (not like they strewn the stuff about) but its not something I ever saw in the previous places I've lived

Most of the people that do that are looking for something they can use or sell off for a few dollars. They come around every garbage day where we live and I have no problem with it as long as they don't make a mess. It's much better than breaking the law to get a few dollars.

When people move, they throw out stuff. Scrappers will pick up items to resell.

A good way to get rid of things you don't want. Just put it on the curb!

We are in our northern home. Trash collection is every Tuesday and like clockwork every Monday afternoon thru evening people in pick up trucks come by to pick up mostly metal items, discarded lamps etc.

yes, good point. if I have anything that actually works, I may just stick it out in front of the trash pile. if someone else can use it or sell it, good for them.

It was just so bizarre watching this happen this morning in front of my eyes. not something I had seen before. I just happened to be at my desk, looking out the window

I put stuff out, and sometimes people come by and take it, I'm glad somebody can use it...

Don’t know where you lived before………but this happens everywhere. Even did it myself many moons ago.

Frankly I'm sometimes tempted myself with some of the stuff people put out! Often it is put out with the intention of having it taken by someone.

Must remind you we are living in a bubble and we are not a gated community. Since we no longer recycle aluminum still has value to some. I still place recyclable cans in a separate bag always disappears B4 garbage pickup.

Once in a while you see this ,usually they come by late at night. They look for Salvageable items they may fix and resell. I usually, put the items that Could be still good in a pile next to the trash or if its a good catch for someone, I put it out a day early to see if someone is interested. Usually its gone fast. Nothing goes to waste., some ones trash is some ones treasure. I seriously have no problem with it.

Did you happen to notice any black helicopters over them?

Just asking for a friend...

If we are throwing away something that may have use to others we use the clear trash bags that used to be for recycling. It allows folks to see what’s in there without opening them.
