Default Ashland Pond Sinkhole

True. The water level was surprisingly low in both ponds yesterday, and today the sinkhole is clearly visible. The heron, cranes and wood storks are feasting, but its not pretty.

I passed by the Ashland pond as well as the pond at the Belvedere gate and they were extremely low. Sad....

A 40' sinkhole opened in the retention pond behind the Ashland Neighborhood
Recreation Center which drained a chain of ponds (Villages
of Ashland and Bonnybrook -Castleberry Circle). Two plugs will be installed so that any
future rain will be retained.

Default Sink hole

I am up north. There is a pond across from my house that backs up to Belvedere Blvd next to the Bonneybrook pool.(the pond is on the same side of the road as the pool) across from Ansel Ave. Was it effected? Thanks for your help. I would hate to go down in a few months and find thing gone. Will the Villages (district 5) fix the Problem??

Thanks for any accurate info

Joe

I recall seeing photos on TOTV, of another large pond that went the way of a sink hole, it was a few years back, I think. I admit, it was a bit of a shock to see the size & scope of it. Did anyone take pics of the Ashland sinkhole that they can share with us?

From looking at the map, it does appear to be a very large pond . . . . with weather conditions the way they have been - long term drought and recent heavy rains, I am not surprised. It does make you wonder though - where next?

Default Go take a look

This is the large pond right behind Ashland pool. It is off Lynnhaven Drive. Good example of a sinkhole.

We walk our dog there. When the water level was going down fast, one of the homeowners on the lake called the Villages and was told they were draining it for repairs and not to worry. Wrong. It's a good sized sink hole. Little silver fish were all around and even in the grass where birds have dropped them.
Sorry, I wouldn't know how to post a picture if my life depended on it.

But I do recommend a drive to see it. Also, check your insurance to be sure you have sinkhole coverage. There is another sinkhole in Belvedere that drained a pond. Make sure you have that insurance!

This is where I would like to hear it from the horses mouth. Janet Tutt.
I hate for anyone to worry unnecessarily. Bogie? You seem to know how to connect with her.

But even if it is a sinkhole, that doesn't mean we are all gonna get them.
It could BE a sinkhole and they ARE draining it for repairs and to SEE the problem, and then they pump some kind of concrete stuff or something into the ground to repair the sinkhole. It could have been the truth, you know. Also the ponds are interconnected, it doesn't mean they BOTH have sinkholes.

Or it could mean the end of the world is coming. I don't know ****.

No one would think it is the end of the world or that we are all going to get them and no one said that.
Call up Bob Smalley if you want to get it from the "horse's mouth". Do go over and look at the sink hole. It is big. They will have to plug it if they want a pond back. They used that pond for all the small sailing clubs.

The Belvedere sink hole opened up two months ago and is under repair. Sinkholes can appear anywhere. They are all over Florida and the Villages. I just happen to drive by these and that is how I know about them. The World is not coming to an end.
