Default Does Crown Moulding and An Open Floor Plan

We’re curious whether crown moulding is compatible with the open floor plan homes that are currently popular in TV? Crown moulding is generally accepted as a traditional home style feature and we’re curious whether it looks out of place in the modern open floor plan setting. Is there an authority other than personal taste that determines what works in home decorating?

I don't see why not. Admittedly having traditional furniture facing an open kitchen takes some getting used to for many of us, but it doesn't take much time.

I think crown molding is fine in any type of house. However, most people will never even notice that you have it, especially with high ceilings.

We chose the largest crown molding they offered because it is so far up there.

We are the exact opposite (if there is such a thing) of decorating experts, but personally we like it a lot.

We love ours. We have a Wyndham courtyard villa and have crown in all the rooms including our enclosed lanai. Some of our ceilings are painted off shade of the wall and the crown is a great divider and it brings your eyes to it.

I think it adds a lot to any Villages home.

I was surprised how reasonably priced CM is in TV.

I notice our (after 6 years) and notice it in other homes.

We purchased an open floor plan resale that had crown molding, I don't think it looks that great but apparently they did! Probably popular in the mid-west and east coast.

Crown molding gives a finished touch, even with the very open kitchen type rooms, in my opinion.

We have a more of a modern layout in our CYV and actually removed all the crown mounding. It made for cleaner lines and made the ceilings look higher. Also had all the popcorn ceiling removed and went as flat as possible. Of course everyone is different but figured we would throw in our 10 cents😁

If you have it done, make sure they caulk all of the cracks at the ceiling, wall, and where the cut sections join together. Whenever I see crown molding, that is the first thing I notice. But, even if they do the caulking, cracks will eventually open up if they use a basic, cheap latex caulk.

Your place is absolutely awesome! WOW! I LOVE IT, I could not live in it, but I do love it. (Don't worry I normally don't make much sense!)

I love all kinds of décor and this is beautifully done.. I love the dramatic portrait and the simplicity and clean lines. Well done.

I disagree. It sets of a high ceiling and is very noticeable.

That is a very modern-looking interior, and I agree that crown molding wouldn't fit in there. It looks great.

Other more traditional types of furnishings go well with crown molding. In our designer, it was so Spanish on the outside, we didn't consider crown molding. I would have liked molding around the windows, though--but something flat. We never got around to it. Now in our CYV, I like the plainer look.

Question is Do you like it ! Otherwise it's a waste of money. When given a choice be a Jones not a Jones imitator.
