We just moved into Fenney last week and we noticed no mater what we try to do our silverware comes out of the dishwasher spotted and not clean. We've tried dishwasher rinses etc. but nothing helps.
We're wondering if it might have anything to do with the water here in TV? So we're considering installing a NOVA water system and we're wondering if anyone has had experience with a water filtration system helping with our silverware problem. |

We've had good luck with "Finish" Powerball dishwasher tablets.
Had the same problem 3 years ago and on the advice of someone here in ToTV switched and minimal problem since. |

I don't know about Nova, but we have a whole house filter system with a water softener and have no problems. We did find the water here a bit hard.

The water here is quite hard but my silverware doesn't come out of the dishwasher spotted at all. We don't have any water treatment system in our home. I use Cascade Platinum pods in the dishwasher with Finish rinse aide in the rinse dispenser. Good luck!

If your stainless is very light in weight, you might consider buying a better set. The Cascade and Finish pods are excellent. Cascade makes two separate products and you might try the better (more expensive) one. We use Finish and Finish rinse and have no problem. Lastly, could the problem be your dishwasher or the cycle you use? If you don't use a heat (dry) setting, make sure you crack the door when the cycle is done so the contents can air dry. Good luck!

Maybe your dishwasher water is not hot enough. The warranty department advised me to run the hot water in the sink befor turning on my dishwasher. I also use finish powerball and my silverware is sparkling

We had a Nova filter system along with the water soft installed and noticed the difference almost immediately. No more white stuff around the bronze fixtures, no more rings in the toilet, the water is soft, doesn't leave spots on the counters, scalp feels much better, and the water tastes better. We use the potassium pellets and it uses 1 bag every 6 weeks or so, you can also use the salt pellets if you prefer. Have absolutely no regrets and their pricing is so much lower than all of the others we talked with and no pressure to buy. I would highly recommend the Nova system.

We switched to Nova water system 2 years ago because of the taste and smell of our water here in Sanibel. Couldn't be happier! We did not go with the water softener system, felt we didn't need it since taste and smell was the major issue. Recommended changing of the filters each year, if full time residents, or when 26,000 gallons of water pass through.

A friend and I researched this extensively five years ago. My flatware started spotting after a kitchen renovation in which we installed a dishwasher with a stainless interior. That's one issue.
The second issue is that there are indeed different qualities of 18/8 and 18/10 stainless. If it's coming from China or India or Vietnam it can still have the chromium & nickel content to qualify it for 18/10 but still be a poorer quality steel than what's manufactured in the US or Italy. There is a process called passivation that is applied after manufacture, and that speaks to the quality of the flatware as well. Here is a good thread on the stainless/spotting issue: Oops! Sorry, page not found. Error 404 From the first page: "for the main problem you can be sure that the quality of steel is the source. If you can find flatware (and other products) with steel manufactured in the above countries (US, Japan, Europe) you will have much better quality, and products that truly DO stain less. Remember that the stainless steel is still 70-80% iron, so it will still rust if the quality is poor or it is stressed by chemicals that are not good for stainless steel. If the steel is full of inclusions caused by poor manufacture and use of high amounts of scrap iron you will have rusting even in normal uses." I have very good quality stainless from Italy. It started spotting in the stainless interior dishwasher. Apparently that just sets up a corrosive environment. I hand-washed the stainless after that, until we came here. Now with my plastic interior dishwasher and the use of Finish Powerball, I don't have a problem. We do have a whole house water filter and water softener.

I just reread your original post and was wondering . . . You say your silverware does not come out clean; how about your dishes? If your dishes come out clean, perhaps you aren't loading your silverware properly??? We do not have any type of water system. Our clothes are clean and the whites are white, things come out of the dishwasher clean, we drink the water and don't have a problem. If your only concern is that your silverware is spotted, my opinion is that's a pretty insignificant reason to have a water system.

I'm not positive but ... Your supplier of potable water might not be the same as those who are responding. There is more than one supplier of potable water in The Villages. I'm in CDD 8 and we get water from North Sumter Utility. I'm not sure about Fenney, but I think that Wildwood is the provider for water there. Obviously, the source of the water is the same - the aquifer - but the treatment of the water might be different. Good luck finding a solution that woks for you. |

Not everyone has the same sensitivity to taste and smell nor can your senses detect the the impurities in the water there are about 110 chemicals the Nova filter removes as per an independent lab test, along with two carcinogens (which are clearly defined as byproducts of the disinfection process) lastly out filter removes "micro plastics found in the water. The two carcinogens stated on your annual water report "Haloacetic acids (HAAs) are a type of disinfection by-product that are formed when chlorine reacts with natural organic matter in the water. These acids are chemical compounds that contain chlorine and bromine. They are formed through the disinfection process of drinking water. Drinking water contaminated with haloacetic acids may cause irritation to your eyes and skin and increase your risk of cancer. In high concentrations over a short period of time, exposure to haloacetic acids in drinking water can cause severe irritation to the skin. The Environmental Protection Agency has classified the acid as a Group 2B cancer classification, which means it may cause cancer in humans. However, this classification is based on studies performed on animals, and the evidence to support its carcinogenicity in humans is limited. Experiments on mice exposed to varying levels of haloacetic acid showed an increase in the development of liver tumors and liver cancer. TTHM Found to cause cancer in laboratory animals, and trigger the production of free radicals in your body; chloroform is an example of a trihalomethane; THMs are associated with bladder cancer, gestational and developmental problems."
