If you're so tired of it, refrain from commenting. Go on to the next post with a title having nothing to do with "dogs", "poop", "respecting property".
Well said lovey2

How we deal with it is a measure of our character. Some people like to make issues into larger issues. MOST people are responsible. I say this after living here for almost seven years. I grow tired of the complaining about this subject.

Tired of it. VERY tired of it. I don't have a dog and I live on a corner lot. I like dogs a lot and I am somewhat proud of our lawn. I would much prefer to live where people have pets. It makes them happy. AND MOST dog owners are responsible to all of us. I say choose your fights. What is most important? Living in your neighborhood and having friends, or finding stuff to fight about????

And all this kvetching isn't going to change anybody's attitude, just aggravate them further. I choose dog people over non dog people seven days outa seven.
I like your "approach"-----I too will choose people over dog poop in my yard everytime.

OP, I also like the idea of greeting your neighbor and offering to pick up the poop because they are on a scooter----I bet you two will become good friends.

Yes, people are more important than a perfect yard IMHO.

I have a sidewalk in front of my home but people still allow their dogs in my yard. I love dogs but don't have one because I don't want to clean up dog crap. Many people are considerate and keep their dogs on a short leash but others are just rude. There are a certain few people who use the leash that extends and they don't pay any attention to where the dog is or what it is doing. I have asked a few people nice to keep the dog on the sidewalk and I was told that I was an old grouch by one and another told me to mind my own business. I thought I was since he was standing in MY yard at the time. Like anything, there are always some people who can't follow the rules or respect others property.

Well said. They were wrong.

Hey... Play nice. I think your comments towards GG are unnecesary . No one was attacking you, her response was a generalization directed towards no one in particular and about character.

I have been coming here since 1995 and lurking on this board since 2008 and living here since 2011. In the early days of the Villages these kinds of issues came out in a letter to the editor, in a column called weed and flowers....

This point is this problem exists elsewhere and has been going on for a long while. The problem is not going away and our character determines how we deal with it.

Now I've seen it all! A golf cart was coming up my street, then quickly stopped and the driver let his dog jump out and poop on my lawn. Dog jumped back into the cart and said driver then turned around and drove back down the street. Guess the dog couldn't wait. should be glad that the driver didn't have to "go".

So please let this person and their dog go for a walk and don't denegrade their ability to pick up the poop.

I agree they should not go in someone's yard but would you really have it in the street??? We have lots of resourceful people in TV and I hope someone can come up with some sort of mechanism these folks could use to pick up the poop. I know how much joy my fur kids bring to my life - it is probably multiplied if you are handicapped and homebound. Please have some compassion.
I never said the person should not go for a dog walk with the scooter. I said that they should have the dog doo it in their OWN yard. If containing the dog in their own yard till it dumps requires an invisible fence, then that is what they can do. Or they can get a courtyard villa with walled in backyard where the dog can roam free in its own yard and can choose all its favorite spots to go on, and THEN it can go with the owner for a walk, as thousands of people like us do.

And if they cannot pick up, they can leave it in their OWN yard, until somebody--paid or voluntary--can collect it once a week. There were pet waste collection businesses growing in our former community, and I'd bet there are people here, such as dog sitters, who would pick up once a week and take it away.

Here is an article to start with:

Ahhh...the minions. OK...she quoted my post, it was directed at me, and I have
fine character. She is right in that the subject will never go away.... as long as there are people that dont respect others property and take responsibility for their animals.

We wear shoes; dog don't.

If the owner picks up what their dog does, i.e., poop -- then what is the problem?

Alas! Unfortunately, we don't live in a perfect world and
there is no single answer that will please everyone.
I think you mean there is no other choice that suits your agenda. Actually you could let your mutt crap in your kitchen. If you pick it up, what is the problem? Maybe you can pick the turd up by the clean end.

It not meant just for the people with limited physical abilities it just happened in ,y cars this is what I saw from my window .Everyone who has a dog should take care and not walk on other peoples lawns. As to the guy with the spikes I hope he is not in my neck of the woods .Seems I hit on a topic that has been around a while sort for hashing it up again

I agree with Mr. Grampi. Actually, if Gracie was responding toward anyone in particular, it would have been to the OP. But I don't think she was. I think she was making a generalization, and I agree with her sentiments and her right to express them without being stormed.

My comment was made in the interest of maintaining civil, public discussion, period. You could have directed your response to a lot of people, I would have responded the same way. I do respect your opinion on this, just did not care how you delivered it.

BTW :Calling people names is kinda high school....I have been called a lot of things in my life but never a minion. I was born and raised in Detroit so nothing you could say would bother me.

No blood, no foul, have a nice day!

Back on topic... there's no reason why you can't keep your dog off of other people's property. If it's so hot he can't walk on the pavement and therefore you feel he must walk on the grass, it's too hot for him to be out walking anyway. I mean, at some point you would be needing to cross a street or a sidewalk. So if it's too hot for that, you shouldn't be out. Stay home till the late evening or early morning.

As for the guy on the scooter... We had that in our neighborhood in MI. The gentleman chose routes with sidewalks and did not allow his dog a long enough lead to get onto people's yards. He has MS, is on his second dog, and I never once saw that dog take a dump while on his walks. He must go in the yard before leaving home, and the man keeps the wheelchair and the dog moving.

It's about respect for others' property.

Some if not many of these wildlife examples poop in our yards and no one picks it up nor seems to be bothered by it. If the pet owners are picking up, is it really a big problem? It seems to me that simply being courteous by staying as close to the street as possible and picking up immediately after should be workable. And yes, if it bothers you as much as it apparently does some folks, put out the little "bad doggie" sign and I bet most Villagers will move on to a more welcoming neighbor's yard if they are not close to their own. Because they are not breaking any laws or violating any neighborhood restrictions, don't let this issue ruin your day.
