You are correct, of course. But sometimes, with ongoing issues, some folks, me included, feel the urge to add a quip or comment to inject a bit of humor. Not everyone sees the humor. Some even get argumentative to try and justify and rationalize their disgusting behavior. Expect this issue to be brought up time and again because it is an ongoing problem with a never ending supply of cretins intentionally trespassing to violate their neighbors property.

Some of the loads are so big, car traffic treat the piles as roundabouts!

Maybe they could be collected and burned as a source of electrical energy? Dogs and humans too.

There is a couple up the street from me that every morning will practically drag their dog to my side yard for it use. They do clean most of it up but the smell must still be there as all day other dogs will stop and stiff that spot. The point is have a little respect for your neighbors, if it’s your dog, then please use your own yard for it’s business! I love dogs but I didn’t spend this type of money and move here to be a doggie rest area!

Well just to show that it takes ALL kinds and attitudes to make a world, I have actually told people walking by with dogs (if I start talking with them) that it would be fine WITH ME if their dog peed or pooped on my grass. It is good fertilizer and I am NOT worried about stepping on it or smelling it. I have had dogs in the past and like to pet the neighbors' dogs if I am out in the yard.

I witnessed the "crap" last night at the square. A couple were walking their little dog and he pooped right on the corner of the Sharon....and did not pick it up! Are you kidding....the square!!
Don't ask my why I didn't yell to them, I should have and normally I do......anyway, whoever you are...thank you for being sooooo considerate to the rest of us.

Velvet 02-14-2023 12:03 PM

Triker, dogs have wonderful noses, you can always use spices or other smelly stuff on your grass. At the edge not on the lawn, vinegar will even keep the bugs away.

Dog poop

My mom used to quietly lift the screen and shoot the dogs in the butt with a pullet gun on the lowest setting(one or two pumps)that same dog would never stop on our corner to do their business again!

Next time, take a picture of him and his dog doing his business and report him to Community Watch. They'll take care of the problem. It is disgusting that people walk their dogs on other people's property and fail to clean up after them.

samquiros 02-14-2023 01:22 PM

You cannot deny a dog the ability to pee or poop when they are out walking. That’s just inhumane.

What you can do is expect the dog owner to pickup the dog poop. That is the right thing to do (not to mention a legal requirement).

Pee evaporates or is absorbed by the ground. No, it does not burn the grass.

Most dog owners I see pickup after their dogs. Some do not.

To those who don’t, I wish that the next bout of “the runnies” your dog gets is on your bed.

To all the responsible dog owners who pickup after their dogs, thank you.

You are right about the dog has to go. However, the owner decides where they are going to take the dog for a walk. So if the dog is on someone’s lawn other than their own, for any reason, the owner is responsible for allowing it. These inconsiderate people who let their dogs irritate others, alienate so much goodwill, I find it hard to understand. When you need help, you never know what can happen; hurricanes, accident, old age, etc who will be immediately there for you? For me it was my 6 closest neighbors. Number one reason why I love TV so much!

Obviously the rants accomplish nothing. If people dislike/hate domestic animals this is not the community for them.

Whether the dogs owner picks up the poo or not, ideally, should not be my problem since their dog should not have been on my lawn in the first place. The dog can only be on the lawn if the owner allows it. And, if the owner allowed it they are not responsible dog owners.

Now that is not fair. I love animals. Keep dog biscuits at my store and at my home (I do not have a dog). This doesn't mean I welcome anyones dogs to crap and urinate on my lawn.

I no longer complain about those that allow their dogs to use my lawn as a toilet. I have my sprinklers controlled by my smart phone AP and record the action with my security camera for repeated laughs. :a20: :a20:

The Villages is fine for me.

When I see anyone with a dog breaking the rules, I confront them immediately and then I report them to the Sumter County Animal Control Commission in Sumterville.

For example, one of our neighbors had their dog off-leash and the dog came very close to us barking very aggressively. I yelled at the owner and we had a very heated confrontation.

I reported him to the Commission. The next time I saw him, his dog was on a leash.

Can you turn on sprinklers from the phone?
When you see the culprit coming wait till they get on your grass then turn on the sprinklers.
It does work.

Haven't you figured it out yet? It is not a problem with the dogs. It is a problem with the dog's owners. Don't blame the dogs. They are innocent bystanders in this mess. The owners should be tarred and feathered.

This thought has crossed my mind that some (not all) people can not for whatever reason bend over and pick up after their dog. When I just saw your comment you made me wonder if there is a product that could help responsible dog owners who want to pick up after their dogs but can't. There is. As you have noticed you cannot reason with SOME PEOPLE. It is perhaps interesting that the dog knows by instinct not to go where it lives. The dog knows by instinct that it STINKS and carries disease. Truly simple, put down cayenne pepper. The dog will first sniff learn this is not a good place. .

The pepper washes aaway with rain or lawn watering. My dogs have never had a problem using my lawn. Dogs do not know it smells and certainly know it carries disease. You are very wrong.

As stated you cannot reason with SOME PEOPLE. If you walk YOUR dog on YOUR property-you do not have a problem. Yes, any of the repellents that work on smell need to be applied often.

I would say most dog owners are respectful. I disagree painting most dog owners with the "disrespectful" characterization.

Understand your situation, but, Villages DOG problem is like comparing "apples to oranges", the point here is INTENTIONALLY RUDE and DISRESPECTFUL people... how people handle their farm animals is a totally different subject, however, as I stated, I do certainly understand your situation. We used to have such problems here when a community (including the villages at one time) had parades with horses. You might also be aware that in larger U.S. cities, there are often horse drawn carriage rides for sight seeing. Horses, in many locals, must, by law, have properly fitted "receptacle" for "eliminations". In The V's, the problem is created by it being far to easy to walk dogs a block or two to the lawns of OTHERS.... crazy as it sounds, maybe dog diapers would be a good idea ? We don't let our very young children go eliminate on the neighbor's lawn. Have a neighbor one block down, has a very "nice" sign they are trying. It is not hand written (obviously purchased it some where) that simply says: PLEASE be respectful, no dogs. It has not made one iota of difference ! I don't think there is an answer, maybe the person who posted to collect it, follow the person, and throw it all in their lawn ? Even that would probably not get the attention of the type of people who take their dogs to destroy the grass of others.

What ??? I don't think anyone on here, certainly not me, "hates" anything. The discussion if RUDE PRIVILEGED people who OWN pets, nothing to do with hating any dog or pet and nothing to do with the dogs who have no idea NOT to soil the lawns of others ! The answer to "move", because you don't want to have your grand kids stepping in poop in your own yard, is exactly what is wrong with our country... NO understanding of others. Not everyone CAN afford to just up and move, would a more rational solution be just have your pet eliminate on your own property ? Easy, not at all "hateful", and no cost to just use your head and be respectful. These things do not have to as complicated as sell your house and move !

Why do you think the victim should have to move?? Why can't the dog owner just stay off other peoples property?? Show a little respect for your neighbors and the law. They have no right to a yard that is not their own. Dog owners are not special or privileged. If you can't or won't control your dog, then you shouldn't own one.
As to "tarred and feathered being an ignorant statement, I agree. But it is no more ignorant, and definitely not near as self-serving as "move to a community without dogs".
Do the right thing. Stay off other peoples lawns.
