WRONG!
Not having animals does not eliminate self-entitled jerks who think they should have free access to your property and possessions. It does not preclude vile and disgusting individuals from all manner of horrible things. So your answer is wrong.

The correct answer, imHo, is, "we should all live together with respect for each other and stay off property you don't own." If we could simply do that there would be no need to concern ourselves with the dogs sniffing, snooping, peeing and pooping anywhere but in their own yards.

Velvet 02-14-2023 05:59 PM

I own too, and that is what makes me so dog-sensitive. I also care for my neighbors, who actually came into my home for life-saving measures. Several of them own dogs and because of what they did for me, I would let their dogs pooh on my lawn till kingdom come. But, oddly enough, not one of my neighbor’s dogs ever comes onto my property without invitation. And the dogs of these dear people behave similarly to them. When they come to visit the dogs act as therapy dogs although they are all just trained as family pets.

IT NEVER ENDS! You know this! It just takes a vacation from time to time. As long as dog owners abuse their neighbors by using their yards as dog toilets, it won't end.

Poop Picking Class

The Rohan rec. center will be featuring poop picking classes for all dog owners. Owners are asked to bring their own baggies to the class. The color blue is recommended so that all persons carrying a blue bag will be seen as responsible poop pickers. The yellow and beige bags are just a fake out.
Our speaker, Mr. Brown, will demonstrate the various techniques of bending over correctly to perform the 1 scoop, 2 scoop, and 3 scoop method of picking up poop. These methods will
accommodate owners with no physical problems, knee and hip problems, and back problems.
He will also demonstrate the mpp tool, this is the magic poop picker that works like a scooper on the end of a cane that can be finger operated. Its great but requires practice.
Please don't bring your dogs as Mr. Brown will have 3 dogs for the breakout classes to practice the various methods. We know demand will be very heavy, so classes will be Mon thru Friday
from 2pm to 4 pm. After completing the class and passing poop picking 101, students will be given diploma's and medallions for their dog collars noting they have graduated. In this way they can proudly display their skills to others. Dog owners without these medallions may be single out by residents as someone to keep a closer eye on. Happy Picking, Up,Up, and away!

As to "tarred and feathered being an ignorant statement, I agree. But it is no more ignorant, and definitely not near as self-serving as "move to a community without dogs".
Do the right thing. Stay off other peoples lawns.

Some of these visits my yard from time to time. Who should we call for poop pickup? My grade-school-age grandson gave me the list of which ones may have pooped in my yard, but he had no idea about poop removal. Need to hurry so all the aminal poop doesn't destroy the lawn.

Cows too if your home is near a pasture and the fence is broken.

Attach a leash to any of them and they become your responsibility. Easy peasy. Keep your animals off my lawn.

Style…

Frustrating topic, I know. If you’re an observer it is fun ( after several deep, calming breaths) to watch those few, selfish dog owners who don’t clean up after their dogs. The most experienced ignore the poop with a nonchalance that is only seen in nearly nude runway models. Less experienced peeps checking their pockets for bags they never brought, may lecture the dog about the impolite behavior and march off with the dog in tow. The folks who let their dogs run as they follow (especially at the Springdale power plant path) make sure enough distance is kept between themselves and the dog that they can deny to anyone they actually saw the dog poop less they actually have to get out of their carts. I see this version as having more of an arrogant and entitled spin than all the others. Although all of them have disregard for their neighbors and I’m stumped as to what the perps could be thinking. It’s obvious to anyone that the emperor has no clothes and the darting eyes acknowledge it. Without knowing what a poop perp is thinking, the evidence shows they don’t care. They will never read this blog and some will even tantrum if called out as the OP described. That’s what gets under the skin of us that do and have to clean up for them.

I, for one, seriously doubt that was their intention. Simply telling a tale from the "good old days".

Learn where this person lives & report it to Animal Control & The Villages, date/time.
I have scooped poo before & placed in offender’s yard or sidewalk. They give the complying dog owners a bad reputation.

We had dogs for more than 33 years. (not now though). I made a potty area on our property using shredded mulch surrounded by bricks to keep the mulch in place. The mulch was soft on their paws so they liked that comfort. Our dogs loved the area and gave us no problem at all doing their business in the potty area. Worked for us and the dogs.

Which is what we do. Then... We take her for a walk...

And guess what? More times than not, she'll poop again (it's what dogs do when you take them for a walk...)

And we proceede to clean it up.

But sure... Y'all be faux "tough guys" and turn on sprinklers or alarms, shoot BBs at people and run up and confront them...

I'm guessing the thing that never happened is you walked the dog in your own yard first. But, if I'm wrong (which you will say I am), where does your dog make its second download? If it is on some neighbors yard then you failed as a responsible dog owner and good neighbor. Dogs never belong on someone else's yard unless invited before hand, that way "accident" don't happen.

Oh, dear... I failed... My dog actually dropped a deuce 12" from the curb (which was promptly picked up)... The HORROR!

Oh, and yes, you are WRONG. We ALWAYS walk our dog in our own yard first, before venturing out... Most times, she does her business there. Sometimes, not...

Maybe you're able to crap on command, but I've found most dogs haven't mastered that trick...

Now, will you admit that the blowhards who swear they'll turn on their sprinklers form their phones or set of their alarms or shoot BBs at dogs are full of crap?

Someone might ask, was the dog on someone else’s lawn at any time? Someone who has not invited the dog to be there? Because that’s where the problem usually starts. On my street I notice that every dog, well except for one renter who didn’t know the expectations, walks on the road or on “public” areas near cul-de-sacs, outside fenced areas, parkettes etc

So, do you think a person who lets their dog on other people’s property is going to CARE ENOUGH to find out how they feel about it? And do a search? I think not!

And we want to know how current is the problem now.

We almost always walk in the road, occasionally hopping on the grass when traffic comes. BUT... Dogs, being dogs, they will let you k ow when they have to do what they have to do.

My dog has never gone in the street and we'll let her go a foot off the curb.

If you curbed your dog and kept them off the neighbors yard, then you didn't fail. Too many are not totally honest about this issue.
As to the sprinklers, alarms and BBs, I believe it is wrong to take your anger out on the dog. The owner is 100% responsible for the dog and it is the owner who deserves the consequences of their actions.

No, I failed because I had the unmitigated gall to let my dog encroach 12" onto someone's lawn and then promptly picked up the toxic waste...

LOL. That is not quite what I meant. The potty area worked for us because we didn't have to worry about our dogs doing their business all over our property. I know people who would let their dogs into their fenced in back yard and there would be dog poop everywhere. It was like a mine field.

That depends totally on the person you trespass against and their mood at any given moment.
Hypothetically, if fences were allowed and you were walking your dog in the street, as you do, and they squatted right there in the gutter, what would you do? Would you let them complete their function in the gutter or carry them over the fence and into the yard? I ask because where there is a property line there is an implied imaginary fence for every lot. In my case my lot is on a corner with a sidewalk on one side. It is a major traffic thuroughfare with lots, and I mean lots of dog walkers. Most make more than one trip per day. Most allow, and many actually direct, their dogs into my yard to sniff until they find the scent that triggers the urge to purge. The few dogs that are not alowed to sniff the grass never seem to need to go. Funny how that works. You are only walking one dog, so to you its no big deal. But I get, quite literally, dozens of poo and pee dumps daily. I can be watching Barney Fife, trying to enjoy my chili dog when some SOB drags his dog into my yard and let's him/her deposit a familiar looking heaping helping right in plain view. At that moment my normal warm feelings toward my fellow man seem to cool somewhat.
So you see, it's not about you and your small indiscretion, it's about the innumerable times it happens each and every day throughout the community and through the country.

We chose a corner lot to give us extra space. People do try to clean up, but it is impossible to get it all. I do appreciate the effort, but I would prefer they would not come onto the grass (or what's left of it). Also, the number of animals traipsing across the yard every day create trails over time and that further degrades the lawn. I got what I paid for, why do others feel they should get to use it?
