We have two small dogs and are trying to figure out how we can let them do their business without having to let them out of the lanai each time. Has anyone put grass inside their lanai for this purpose? Any it her ideas?

I don't know about grass on the lanai, but I have heard of small dogs being litter box trained. They also make "wee" pads that dogs can be trained to use.

Wiggle Wag for $128 looks similar to the Potty Patch for $40. Has anyone used either product? I'd be interested in hearing comments.

Our Bichon is 6 months old and we tried the pee pads and the more expensive grass system. Although Lucy found them comfy to rest on and really enjoyed chewing the grass, neither solution worked for us.

I've read that some puppy and small dog owners have better results so, if you can afford it, it may be worh trying.

I have finally found a good system for our two cats; Mikey, Harry and Hershey. It includes poop removal from litter twice daily and changing litter three times a week and placing throw rugs that are washed daily in front of the two litter pans (Thank you Chelsea!) we keep in the laundry room.

Now both of them remember their bathroom manners. When we first moved in here, I was about to reconsider our mutual habitancy of this home.

We all love them and that was a stressful time cause I was taught that Cleanliness is next to Godliness. Guess they were getting used to their new digs too.

I tend to think that dogs have to be trained from birth on artificial turf. But I'd love to hear more comments. Our llittle dog disdains anything but real grass.

Duffy has been trained to use wee wee pads. As a small puppy I would take the pads outside and when he piddled I would make sure I got some of it got on the pad. Once inside he would be interested in smelling the pad and would piddle. After a short time he was completely trained and has never missed the pad unless I forgot to put it down and then he would go where it should have been. Interestingly enough, he has never lifted his leg inside; he squats like a girlie girl but outside he lifts his manly leg. I use the incontinent pads they sell at the drug store, far cheaper than the pads the pet store sells. It's a beautiful thing; no early morning walks or late night trips outside.

When we fly I go to the ladies room at the airport and put a pad on the floor of the stall, I go, he goes and off we go. The minute he see a pad he marks it.
