Oh my, there are so many responses I could give you, but I will make this brief and to the point. Were it not for my dog, my sole companion, I don’t know how I would have made it through the pandemic. She is a constant source of happiness for me. Yes, we go for golf cart rides and she has her own golf cart seat which is elevated and tethered. To quote you, “what part of the brain doesn’t understand this?” I assume that you never had a dog. I’ve had 13 in my life and each one has made my life better. I’ve never met a dog I didn’t like and somehow I think if I ever met you I wouldn’t be able to say the same.

I witnessed a lady (who I think was featured on my 600 lb life) wobble behind a tiny dog.

Both examples cannot pick up after the pet and do it in the cover of darkness. Why do they torture themselves? Doesn't the handicap or disability take enough we want to add this extra layer?

Yes, having a dog is work. But so was having your kids or anything else you might be passionate about. But the rewards are endless!
Human nature, a need to love and be loved. First off, dogs give off endorphins that are calming to humans. 2nd, now that the kids are grown, have their own families, people need to have a purpose. Taking care of a dog is like taking care a baby. You love them , feed them , take care of them. You’re mommy and daddy again.
Plus, giving a dog a living home is such a feel good feeling.

I like to put it simply. Pets give some people joy and comfort, and make it worth the owner’s while.

They are not judgmental so you can have a bad hair day, or have suffered a stroke etc and they still like you. (They are looking forwards to their next meal, or pampering.) And they are always there. When you are alone, or by yourself, they are there.

I never minded changing my kids and grandkids diapers. Sometimes it was Everywhere.
Love is not conditional. I pick up after my dog even when it’s freezing, raining or snowing out. I live in NYC. I have arthritis but it’s about love, not the chore. Any dog owner will tell you that what they get back from their furry family, far outweighs what they give.
I’m moving to TV in Dec. Feddi and I will se you soon.

My dog and I participate in “Pet Therapy”. We go to nursing homes, memory care, assisted living and rehab. The joy that my little dog brings to people that need love and hope isn’t measurable. Many people don’t like dogs in the Villages and that’s ok. Many people do like dogs. If this is all you have to complain about, you are one lucky person.
