Default Domestic Partnership

Does Florida recognize domestic Partnerships? We're not gay. (not that there's anything wrong with it)

Big Guy,

Before my hubs and I were married, we lived together for a bit - but not in FL. My company's insurance had a clause that it would provide coverage to domestic partners (regardless of same/opposite sex) and it wasn't limited by state. We were later acquired by another company that only provided the coverage if the partners were same sex - the reason being that opposite sex couples COULD marry. Not sure what they do now that some states allow marriage or CUs for same sex couples.

Did you check with your insurer on their policies? (sorry no pun intended - just can't think of a better word)

I got curious and did a little research. I couldn't find a law specifically about Florida domestic partnerships (doesn't mean there isn't one, just that I couldn't find it). However, it does appear that it is a county-by-county decision. The County of Palm Beach recognizes DPs and has a form that can be filed with the County Recorder. So, I'd suggest you check with the Recorder of whatever county you end up living in to see what the rules and regulations are. Hope this helps a little, anyway.

Default Domestic Partnership

Unfortunately, the State of Florida does not recognize domestic partnership. I have been with my significant other for 10 years and we planned on filing our Affidavit with the County Clerk when we moved to The Villages. I should have done my homework. What a surprise to find out it's not recognized here, so guess what? We got married!!! So maybe it was a blessing in disquise. Good Luck...

Proposition 2 was about this very issue last year. It would block any benefits for domestic partnerships. Many people slanted it as a protection for Floridians not to have to ever allow gay marriages....however it hurt ALL domestic partnership laws.

Bottom line is that they do not have any benefits for domestic partnerships because too many people voted YES on Prop 2....

At least some domestic partnership couples are allowed to marry...some are not....all should be equal!!!

Red face Domestic Partnership

I'm A Florida Notary Public and have been performing weddings for 17 years - here in TV I usually perform 2-3 a month. That number includes those in domestic partnership type relationships who decide to make it "legal"

If I can ever be of help, please send me a personal message ..................................

I wish you luck & happy days.
