I vaguely recall an article that the head of the district management(?) had announced a change to limit (or eliminate?) trimming of the palms on district property. You can call this department and ask what the current policy is.

It’s there natural look. Agree about the ugliness palms there are. They must be cheap! why you see them everywhere. another thing, they plant them by tennis AND pickleball courts the the seed pods drop little round berries that act like marbles when the get hard. Very aggravating.

I believe the majority you are seeing are Sabal/Cabbage palms and I read maybe even in the Forum they are not trimmed of dead palms intentionally.

it's funny because if I let the landscaping on my property have the "natural" look i'll get a call from tv telling me to maintain the property.

I read on this forum, several years ago, that Sharon Morse liked the looked of those palms in their natural state so.........they do not trim the dead fronds for that reason.

Problem with those palms, besides their untidy look, is that they leave so much debris after a storm with high winds. It is what it is. The Villages will not trim them so there is that.

I noticed that a few days ago too. All the dead leaves left at the bottom. I would also think rats would like to live inside it.

Yes, it is a fact that rats live in the canopy of palm trees.

I think many of these comments are referring to the Washingtonia palm tree, which traditionally, have fronds hanging down and this is known as a "skirt." These particular palms are NEVER trimmed. Other palms yes -- they should be trimmed but not so much that they almost form a point. If you picture the letter "T", any fronds hanging below the arms of the T should be trimmed but if the fronds are in the form of arms straight out, those fronds should not be trimmed.

Lesson over!

Is that for the health of the tree, or does that merely satisfy what has become the esthetic norm?
BTW, historically, the OP of this thread typically writes posts expressing his disillusionment with all things pertaining to The Villages. We're reaching pretty far here, complaining about the palm trees.

About four years ago wife and I were walking on Stillwater Trail by the Coconut Cove pickleball courts. It was a strong windy day, and one of the large palm fronds fell by the side of us.
Those spikes on the stem could take the flesh off of you if they hit.
We were lucky.
If the stem had hit and hurt either of us, we would have had the added dilemma of who to call first, 911, or Morgan and Morgan!

Same story I read several years ago.

That anyone has the time to go back over what's the OP has written about in the previous blogs?

Life must be boring. ..

70,000 palm trees at oh $100 a pop to trim them let’s say annually. Look out amenity fees!
