Default Is there a couples golf league for snowbirds?

Paula and I come down for 4 months, Jan.-April. Paula owns a home in the historic section.

Is there a golf league for snowbirds who are only in The Villages over the winter months?

Paula took lessons at the Villages' Golf Academy last winter. She took more lessons in Ohio and we've been playing together in Ohio, but not in a league.

I am in 2 seniors leagues in Ohio.

We're not interested in proving that we can be league champions. We're just interested in having fun with others at Silver Lake or Hill Top once a week.

GracieGirl, you usually are good at helping people with this. Direct me to the right place.

Thank you everyone for any suggestions you might make. I know we're not 12-monthers, but we are Villagers for 4 months (me) and 6 months (Paula).

I like to think that once you are here you are a Villager. There are lots of "leagues" in the Villages. Many streets like ours have their own league. All you need to do is scout around and you'll find one you are happy with.

The vast majority golf groups are put together around social clubs, neighborhoods, or other common interests. Start networking in your area, asking friends, neighbors etc if they play in or know of any golf groups. Also chat with the folks at your two starter shacks. (Networking)

We found playing with groups that are generally close to our area makes it easier when trying to choose courses and where to eat afterwards. Many groups are as socially oriented as they are golf oriented. Don’t worry about your level of play as long a you play “ready golf”.

TV does have organized weekly golf events for both men and women. Those can be more serious and usual have prizes/awards.

I’m sure other will chime in.

We each play a couple of times week individually and in two couple’s groups.

You can start one and I would take book that you will find Snowbirds who would love to play. All you need is a computer and someone willing to arrange tee times. My advice. Keep it small maybe 12 golfers and simple. Dont make a lot of rules and have fun. Good luck.

Excellent advice by all. Thank you. Maybe we can call it the Doozy Dozen, play golf in the Historic District, then go out to eat together. Restaurant next to Hill Top course would be excellent for that. You know, in my 4-month stays in The Villages I've never run into a grouch. Well, one, but he was the exception that proves the rule. In my travels to 55 countries and 44 states I have NEVER encountered a place as fantastic and unusual as The Villages. 120K people and no one sitting in a rocker waiting to die. The Undertaker will have to drag all of us from our daily fun. I just love The Villages to pieces. I can't wait to be there again. Paula will be there for 6 months, and she fits The Villages like a glove. Again, thanks to everyone for their suggestions.
