Default AM/FM radio reception in the house

We live in Village of Duval down the hill toward the pond. We get one or two radio stations in the house with a lot of static. No other stations come in. We have concrete block with metal studs. I believe this is what causes our problem. Does anyone else have this problem and what do u do for it. Any suggestions? Thank you for any input. AL

We had the same problem when we first moved in, hubby just put a little wire antenna on the back of the stereo for both AM and FM and now I get lots of stations. If you have Comcast for your television, they have music stations also, and a pretty nice variety.

If reception is not what u desire with an indoor antenna, u always have the option of installing an external one. I am sure there are restrictions on them, but they are such a thin profile that nobody would even see it.

On a side note isn't it just wonderful that the only station we really can get plays Rock and Roll music 24/7 and the DJ's still think they are 19 years of age. How lucky we are to be subject to such trash forever.

I think thats an unfair statement. The trash rock and roll you refer to is very popular here in TV. Therefore your saying we are lovers of "trash"?
How about you revise your statement to " your opinion"
Long live ROCK AND ROLL
IMHO

I think the gentleman from WV needs to define his terms. I hear a pretty good mix of music periods represented by our local AM station. Perhaps the gentleman should turn off his radio and confine his listening to his personal collection. As for DJs thinking they are still 19 years of age, don't we all feel that way on a good day? Even on a bad day I try not to push 30.

An omni-directional FM antenna in the crawl space or attic should do the trick. Generally it's above metal obstructions and is still indoors. This site is just an example of many such antennas.

Hope it helps.

Couple of things here...let's first address the static on your current radio. Many times this can be caused by a dimmer switch on one of your lights or by one of those table lamps that can be turned on/off by touching the base.

Try shutting off your dimmers (if you have any) or by unplugging any of those touch on/off table lamps.

Neither of those exist in your home? Well, wander around your house with a portable radio set to AM and your dial set to where there is no station. Try to find where the static is loudest...you may have to position your radio near light switches, plugs, lines, etc. Do you have any timers for outside lights? Check them too.

Is the static there all the time or does it go on and off? Could be the air conditioner, the refrigerator, the washing machine, the dryer...you get my drift here.

If you find the source of the static, let us know here and we'll go from there.

Next: What radio are we talking about? Most radios today have horrid AM sections and poor FM sections. Among the worst are those little clock radios that sell for little bucks. Heck, even good receivers have horrid AM sections and there you have it.

If you want a radio that's great on AM and FM, check out the RCA Superadio III.... the RCA 7-2887 Superadio III Portable AM/FM Radio. You can find them at Amazon/e-Bay, etc. These used to be called the GE Superadio and they're just plain great and not too expensive...less than 50 bucks. Google them for more info.

Good luck...

Well, at least I was called a gentleman, LOL! That being true I will change my original statement to include this is only my opinion. There are many devotees of Rock and Roll living here, to be honest I worked my way through college at two radio stations doing news and rock and roll, and I am not against either. It's just with such a diverse audience here in TV, we should be able to have more than just a Rock and Roll format 24/7 from WVLG since it's ratings are not so dependent upon the rating books, after all we are NOT teen agers, well some of us are not. LOL
