I'm certainly no plumber nor am I any kind of "water scientist"/hydrologist. But I did look into this technology about 3 years ago or so when were were trying to figure out what to do for a water conditioning system for our new home in OH. The following is just my perspective:

Though the technology used by such a device might have merit, I concluded it would be in our best interest to go with a conventional type of water softener. It's just Sandy and I living in the house and we don't use much water. I believe the Easy Water system would function more effectively if you have a fairly consistent, regular, and higher flow of water through your house than what we have. The Easy Water doesn't remove anything from your water as a water softener does - it simply professes to leave the minerals in the water "in suspension" and, as a result, you would have better water quality. Given that we have a pressure tank (we have well water) that holds a good bit of water, a 74 gallon hot water heater (yeah, I know - overkill for 2 people ), and a bazillion feet of piping to various bathrooms, etc., I question how well all of the minerals would stay in suspension over time given our low water consumption. So I passed on it and installed a traditional water softener. We have a strong well and the water is free (other than the cost of electricity to pump it) so the water usage to regen a water softener every week or so wasn't a big concern. And going with just the water softener initially didn't cut it when it came to iron removal ("clear water" iron, in our case) so I added in a sediment and iron filter combo to our system as well later on. (Per the Easy Water web site, they acknowledge their technology doesn't do a real good job with any kind of iron removal and thus they leave that to a water softener and/or a dedicated iron filter.)

We bought one and have it installed. Very simple to install, just a little tight to wrap the wires around the pipe. We've only had it about a month or so and they recommend that you try it for at least 6 months before you make any decision whether you want to keep it or not. If you have ever had a softner you will not be happy with the easywater. I tried it for six months an had it taken out. Installed a softner and we are very happy with its performance. You can have it done for about $850.00.
