Default Homestead Exemption

Do you file for it once or do you need to do it every year? Thanks for the answers in advance.

Once you file it stays until you move.

would anyone mind explaining the process? Where do we file? We move in and this will become our permanent residence in a couple of weeks so when could/should we file?

Thanks for any advice!

there's online info , but go to the tax assessor on 466 to file.
I believe you need a florida driver's license and all people on the deed (you'll need the deed/mortgage papers) need to be florida residents too.

on a new residence, your first year taxes are land only.
you need to file homestead before March to have it take effect for the next tax billing season.

Right on doing it once. The tax/assessor office is in the county office on 466A, just east of Buena Vista. I think it was moved from 466 but I may be wrong. There maybe forms on-line too.
