Exclamation Electrical Questions and Grounding of your Home

Hi TOTV Members. Casandra with Pike's Electric here. I received multiple calls today about homeowners in DeLuna having someone inform them that their home was not properly grounded, in attempts to sell them on grounding the home and install surge protection for over $1,000.

I want to plead with you, as homeowner's, to do your research and go to the source. In your panel, there is a sticker of all the companies/trades involved with your home's original construction. If you are not the original owner, the previous owner may have hired various people to make changes in the home, but if you are the sole owner of the home, you know what upgrades you have done. If you have ANY electrical concerns, we urge you to reach out directly to the company who wired the home with questions. OR you can contact The Villages Construction Office for recommendations.

Surge protection is NOT over $1,000 to install.
Estimates for work in your home should always be FREE.
Your home goes through many phases of inspections before it is on the market when it is built. The grounding of the home is done in many different ways that you may not visually see.
If your home has a meter can only with a main breaker inside the panel in the garage, the grounding is done by a ground rod tied into the rebar/foundation of the home.

Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
We are not in the business of scamming or selling anything unnecessary to you. This concerned me so much today that made me want to make this thread.
I am afraid there are companies, individuals, even people unlicensed, that are taking advantage.

If you want to test the individual outlets in your house, you can buy an outlet tester from Amazon for $5.99. You just plug it into an outlet and the lights will tell you if there is a problem with the ground wire, hot wire, or neutral wire. There is also a separate button to test a GFCI outlet. If you are buying a new house, it is a good idea to test all of the outlets.

Good advice! Home inspections are a good thing to invest in as well if you have a home you are looking to purchase. We review home inspection reports for validity and give a free quote for repairs. It is important to inspect, and check your electrical system, and not await until there is an issue.
