We have been members of MVP Health Club in the Villages for several years. Our club of choice has been the Brownwood Club.

The club usage obviously increases in the winter as snowbirds and renters return. But this past week has been overwhelming. Perhaps the cold weather and yearend over indulgences have led to this increase. Also , the increase in residents in that area obviously adds to users. However , another attraction could be the inclusion of free membership in certain United Health Care Medicare Advantage plans.

Hopefully. it levels off. It is good to see success, but in my opinion, excess crowds in a health club detracts from value.

I've experienced this at MVP and other health clubs in the past. People get all excited and promise to be in
better shape for 2018. It should level off by February.

I was at MVP today and one of the trainers told me that the club had a goal of signing up 200 new members for the month of January... they signed up on the first day after the holiday weekend and another 150 the following day.

It was packed there today but the trainer said by mid February things would slow down to normal. Happens every year at the beginning of the year.

I was there Friday, 11 people were standing in the lobby waiting to sign-up. Over heard them talking, most of them are there free through The Village Health Care system.

I heard each time one of them check in MVP makes $3, so they are making good money........not like the're giving it away

I just put my membership on hold due to the recent influx of members. Waiting for every piece of equipment is not worth $63 a month. I'll go back in March to see if things are any different, if not, I'll cancel my membership.

villages health care is open to all the surrounding towns not just villagers that could add up to lots of mvp members.

Is this the silver sneaker program or something else? A couple of years ago the Gym up north started accepting the silver sneaker program and the numbers went up dramatically. They started limiting time on a machine to 30 minutes and enforcing the policy....it helped. After a couple months things leveled off as people dropped out.

United Health Medicare Advantage did have the Silver Sneakers program and you could go to Anytime Fitness for free, which were just outside TV. As of 2018 Silver Sneaker is no longer and the Optum Plan is now added to your plan which allows for free use of MVP, a much better deal than before since a single membership at MVP was $62 a month plus tax.
